CharityWatch's rating of JDRF International includes the financial activities of the JDRF Chapters located throughout the United States and JDRF T1D Fund LLC (The Fund), formerly JDRF Therapeutics Fund LLC. All significant inter-company balances and transactions have been eliminated in the audit consolidation.

According to the JDRF International consolidated audit of June 30, 2022 (Note 1, Organization):

"...The purpose of The Fund is to materially accelerate the development of drugs, devices, diagnostics, and vaccines to treat, prevent, and cure T1D [Type 1 Diabetes]..."

Not included in the JDRF International rating are the JDRF international affiliates located "in Canada, Australia, Israel, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The financial statements of these international affiliates are not included in the accompanying [audited] consolidated financial statements because JDRF does not exercise control over their management or operations. International affiliates do, however, provide contributions to JDRF to support funding of research grants as presented in note 13," according to Note 1 of the consolidated audit. JDRF International received approximately $8.62 million in contributions from international affiliates in fiscal 2022, according to Note 13.

According to the JDRF International consolidated audit of June 30, 2022 (Note 14(a), Commitments, Research Grants):

JDRF had "conditional research grants commitments" of approximately $87,058,000 as of June 30, 2022. The conditional research grants will be recognized in JDRF's consolidated financial statements "when the conditions are met."

According to the JDRF International tax filing for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, JDRF reports re: Compensation, Supplemental Information (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part III):

Regarding non-fixed payments to officers, directors, trustees, key employees and highest compensated employees (Schedule J, Part I, Line 7):

"JDRF awards non-fixed payments such as bonuses on a discretionary basis tied to the employees [sic] performance. The names of employees and the amounts that were paid are found on Schedule J, Page 2, Part II, Col. (B) (II) [Bonus & incentive compensation]."

JDRF reports "Bonus & incentive compensation" payments to ten individuals in calendar year 2021. The payments range from $318,766 to $20,000. Steven St. Peter, Managing Director JDRF T1D Fund, received the $318.766; his reported total compensation in 2021 is $751,018. The second highest payment is $215,194, received by Helen Ellias, Managing Director, T1D Fund; her reported total compensation in 2022 is $593,447 (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part II).

Regarding severance payments to officers, directors, trustees, key employees and highest compensated employees (Schedule J, Part I, Line 4A):

"Joanne Martz and Troy Lindloff both received severance payments as per the terms of their employment agreements. The totals for both are as follows:

Joanne Martz - $218,736

Troy Lindloff - $57,875"

Joanne Martz is reported as former CFO & Assistant Treasurer, through 5/2021; her reported total compensation in calendar year 2021 is $373,176 (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part II)

Troy Lindloff is reported as former CDO & Assistant Treasurer, through 11/2021; his reported total compensation in calendar year 2021 is $517,809 (IRS Form 990, Schedule J, Part II).
