hungarian Hello. Could you please tell me if "jump if you feel froggy" means "if you feel like starting something (fight...) then go ahead and do it"? Thank you. No. I stole nothing and you have no idea of what you are talking about. Pull up your big boy pants and jump if you feel froggy, otherwise quit wasting my time with all of these lame threats. Did Macoupin County Board and Dave Ambrose collude to influence tax referendum at election?Miss Julie

Click to expand...It may mean "fight" in this use, but more likely means "take action" (in this case, "action" may mean some legal action). I have never heard the phrase "jump if you feel froggy" before. I do not think it is a standard English expression that "means" something. But it may be a regional dialect expression. The article was published in a Macoupin County newspaper, and Macoupin County is only 400 km from Chicago, where Miss Julie (post #2) lives.

Sonoma County CA English (UK then US) Some of the earliest video games involved jumping frogs ) Frogs (video game) - Wikipedia ) here deciding when to (comitting to) jump was a key component. That's what came to my mind when I read the OP.dojibear

Fresno CA English (US - northeast) Frogs were famous for jumping, long before video games existed. See "frog jumping contest" in wikipedia. These contests are popular in many places in the US. HHildy1

Click to expand...I agree and read it like this: "Try to grow up (Pull up your big boy pants) and do something about it if you feel like it (jump if you feel froggy i.e. In this instance take legal action if you want to), otherwise quit wasting my time with all of these lame threats." The article, comments, and feud seem to revolve around the use of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act), and information discovered using it. Therefore legal action does seem the most likely challenge in this instance, rather than an invitation to have an actual physical punch-up.

English I am 69yo & told my 6yo g'son just now to warn a bully: "You can't tell how far a frog can jump by looking at it.". Gives bullies something to think about. If it happens again, tell him, "If you feel froggy, go ahead & jump!" My daughter started laughing & gave me her time-for-"the-home" look. She tho't I made it up. She said if it was an old saying, it got left back there. My PaPaw used to say it, but I always tho't of that when David Lee Roth was singing "Jump" in the 80's. I googled it & y'all came up. Seems it may not have been tho't profound enough & gotten left behind. Maybe DLR has never even heard of it. SSonofjames

English I remember hearing a story from a professor in college. He was telling us about how when he was a teenager in N.C. his brother used to get into all sorts of trouble fighting. The way The professor told the story, it was as if he could hear a fight brewing in the distance and he'd go get his fill of skull crashing for the night. Sometimes He'd look at the other guys and say, "I'm feeling froggy." Other times He'd ask them, "You feelin' froggy." So it seems that the context does have to do with being ready for a fight or some kind of action. You must log in or register to reply here.
