Kyrie Irving Facts Kyrie Irving is an American professional NBA championship winning basketball player. He was born Kyrie Andrew Irving on March 23, 1992, to Drederick and Elizabeth Irving, in Melbourne, Australia. Kyrie's father was a professional basketball player in Australia when he was a toddler and his mother died when he was four. Kyrie grew up in New Jersey and knew he wanted to play in the NBA by the time he was in fourth-grade. His skills were evident even as a child and in grade five he was offered a scholarship to Boston University.

Interesting Kyrie Irving Facts:
In 2009 Kyrie Irving announced he would commit to Duke University. He was in the running for NCAA Freshman of the Year but a severe ligament injury put him out.
In 2011 Kyrie Irving entered the NBA Draft and was chosen as first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Kyrie Irving won the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Award, earning 117 out of 120 possible first-place votes.
Kyrie Irving was then chosen to play for the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
In 2012 Kyrie broke his hand and had to have surgery that same July.
During the 2012-13 season Kyrie had an injury to his index finger and missed 3 weeks. Upon his return he scored his then to-date career high of 41 points.
Kyrie Irving became the youngest NBA player to score 40 at Madison Square Garden.
Kyrie Irving was the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup Gold Medal winner, and the MVP, as well as 2014 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.
Kyrie Irving was a gold medal winner in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
