Kyrie Irving Personal Life Kyrie Andrew Irving was born on March 23, 1992 in Melborne Australia. He grew up with an older sister named Asia and a younger sister named London. Kyrie Irving enjoys reading, loves to sing and dance, and also plays the Baritone Saxophone. His godfather is a former NBA player, Rod Strickland, and his cousin was also a highly rated basketball player who played for the University of Kentucky. Kyrie has a 4 and a half year old daughter named Azurie Elizabeth Irving, her middle name was a tribute to Kyrie's mother. Kyrie Irving has also starred in a few television shows and a movie. His father, Drederick Irving played college basketball for Boston University alongside Shawn Teague, After Drederick's college career he moved to Australia to play professionally for the Bulleen Boomers in the SEABL. Kyrie lived in the Melborne Suburbs until he was 2 years old, then they relocated to the United States. Kyrie holds a dual American and Australian citizenship. Kyrie's mother died of illness when he was 4. His father raised him with the help of his aunts. He grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, where he often went to his father's adult-league games, which is where his love for basketball came to develop. Kyrie's love for basketball started to show progress in his freshmen and sophomore year in high school. Kyrie played for Montclair Kimberley Academy and averaged 26.5 points, 10.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.6 points per game. He became the school's second 1,000 point scorer. He then transfered to St. Patrick High School because he felt that he needed a bigger challenge. In his first season Kyrie Irving Averaged 17.0 ppg., 5.0 rpg., 6.0 apg. and 2.0 spg, and led the team to its third New Jersey Tournament of Champions title in four years. In August 2009, he led the USA East to the tournament title in the Nike Global Challenge. He was the MVP with 21.3 ppg. and 4.3 apg College Career Kyrie Irving committed to Duke University on October 22, 2009, he played with the Blue Devils during the 2010-2011 season under the head coach Mike Kryzewski. Through the first eight games of the season, he averaged 17.4 points per game on 53.2% shooting, 5.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals. In the season that he played he was a strong contender for NCAA Freshmen of the Year until he suffered a severe ligament injury in his right big toe during the ninth game of the season. On March 17th, Kyrie returned for his first game back since his devastating injury. Duke advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament that year but lost to Arizona, in which Kyrie scored 28 points in that game. That game also turned out to be Kyrie's last game playing for the Blue Devils. NBA Career Kyrie Irving entered the NBA Draft in 2011, where he was selected as the first overall pick and drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was named to the 2012 rising stars challenge where he played on Charles Barkley's team. Kyrie scored 34 points in the game, making 8 for 8 from the three point range and earned MVP honors. In his rookie year in the NBA he won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award with 117 out of 120 of the votes and was the only unanimous selection to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In his rookie year he averaged 18.5 points from the field, 5.4 assists, and shot approximately 46.9% from the field and 39.9% from the 3 point line and beyond. In his second season of his career he participated in his first All-Star game, his second rising stars challenge, and his first 3 point contest. He also sustained several injuries including, a broken hand, injured index finger, and etc. He ended his sophomore year with an average of 22.5 points, 5.9 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. In his third year in the NBA Kyrie was chosen to be the starting point guard for the Eastern Conference NBA All-Star game. He was the All-Star MVP and scored 31 points and had 14 assists. In 2015 The Cleveland Cavaliers planned on creating their "dream team". During this year the Cavaliers made smart trades and contracted 2 other very high-end players, Lebron James and Kevin Love. With the help of these two players Kyrie Irving was able to make his first NBA Finals appearance in his fourth year in the league. The team lost to the Golden State Warriors in game 6 after Kyrie had fractured his knee cap in game 1. His 5th year with the Cleveland Cavaliers, they were able to make it to the finals and bring home the championship. The Cavaliers proceed to make a comeback and return to the Finals the following year only to be blown out by the Golden State Warriors.
