Latest 1.8.9 on M1 MacBook, constantly crashes when trying to do integration. Workflow has been calibration of files using WBPP, Subframe Selector to weight them, registration against a chosen frame, and integration. this crashed in ImageIntegration or DrizzleIntegration? you say ImageIntegration but the backtrace says Drizzle. at first glance it looks related to memory exhaustion given the kernel triage messages. maybe 16GB of dram is not enough for the integration you are trying to run? of course the kernel should allocate more swap space but perhaps your disk is full? rob S

Thanks for coming back rob, I hope you’re well etc. I’m integrating 109 subs, I’ve done many times that before on this machine on previous versions of Pixinsight; this has only started happening since the last update. I have no other applications running, this is system memory with just PI running before I start the integration attempt: The crash was in ImageIntegration, but it is trying to generate drizzle data for use later in DrizzleIntegration -- I’ll try and turn that off and see if it can at least integrate. Any other thoughts gladly received! P

can you watch the memory usage as it is running with drizzle generation turned on and see if the pressure goes way up? are these subs from a big sensor with a lot of pixels? rob S

so it crashed with drizzle generation turned off also? there have actually been quite a few reports of this kind of crash behavior both on windows and mac (which is something new, the crashes are usually on windows.) juan has been mostly silent... some windows users were having problems with plain ImageIntegration reporting scaling factors of NaN at the end and not generating an image and turning off "clip low range" (or maybe it was clip low pixels, i'd have to search) fixed that problem. maybe you can try that here, but this does seem like something different. rob S

I managed to get it to integrate by disabling rejection entirely; I would say yaaay except I have satellite trails in the image now, and I also rely on rejection to get rid of fixed pattern noise. I’ll try enabling rejection but getting rid of select bits of it. I hope Juan isn’t silent long -- integration is pretty fundamental (and I really don’t want to be pushed into the automated WBPP -- it might be fine if you have good data, but imaging from Light Polluted London you really need fine manual control over all of your subs and how they are included and weighted, this was one of the main reasons I bought PixInsight!). P

agreed about the LP. WBPP might not solve the problem if it has stuff turned on by default that you can't turn off that happen to be causing the crash. which rejection method were you using? ESD is extremely processor and memory intensive. rob S

Crashes with Linear Fit Clipping with both Clip Low Pixels and Clip Low Range disabled; will try disabling Clip High Pixels too. S

I’m using Linear Fit because that’s what I’ve used for ever and it works and I know how to tune it -- I usually do an integration with a number of settings and one with no rejection and then I can make sure I tightly control what it’s removing (so that it gets rid of exactly what I want and nothing more). S

Ok, linear fit works if I don’t clip either low or high pixels. I guess it’s the same crap that Juan is ignoring for other people and I’ll have to wait for a fix. Do you have a link to the other threads? I can’t seem to find anything (my search-fu is clearly weak). P

Integration fails "Division by zero or insignificant scalar "

Attempting my first image processing following online tutorials. I have got as far as the final ImageIntegration and it is failing with the following error after "Integrating Channel 3 of 3" step and "listing Pixel rejection counts". * Normalizing output image. Integration range... pixinsight.com this one seems to be a memory exhaustion problem which is what i was thinking about for your problem:

I have a problem with the Image Integration process in the latest release of Pixinsight. The basic process works fine, but when I try to add drizzle files or normalization files or both, it consistently fails with the error message below. I run core version 1.8.9 build 1544 with the latest... pixinsight.com but on the mac i don't think you need to mess with paging files, i think the system just automatically increases their size as needed (at least that's what it looks like to me when monitoring memory usage with iStat Menus. i know @fmeschia reported some crashes on OSX almost immediately after 1.8.9 came out. i don't know if he ever got a reply. i havent actually loaded 1.8.9 yet as i am still on mojave and currently waiting to replace this machine with a mac studio. rob S

Can confirm that enabling clip low range makes the crash not happen. Now I have to work out exactly what effect it has and how to tune it, but at least I have a way forward! Thank you Rob, really appreciate it.

my last 5 machines have been hackintoshes and while putting these things together is fun (i have a friend that used to call building PCs 'screwdriver therapy'), i'm getting kind of tired of updating my OpenCore config to upgrade to versions which support newer versions of OSX. so i've capitulated and hope to keep the studio machine for 5+ years, since they are kind of expensive.
