Minecraft: Everything You Need To Know About Azaleas - TheGamer

As part of the two-part release of the Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft, we were introduced to several new biomes, blocks, and forms of terrain generation. One of these new blocks is the azalea, a flowing plant that can be used to decorate your world. There are four different variations of azalea blocks that you will encounter, but obtaining all of them is fairly simple.

In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about azaleas, including where they naturally generate in the world, and what you can do with them. First, let's look at how to obtain azaleas.

Naturally Generated Azaleas

Azaleas can be found within the lush cave biome. This is a biome that can be found at any height underground and will contain azaleas that you can harvest without any tool. With glow berries present, you can easily spot this biome because of the dim light present.

Creating Azaleas From Moss

Azaleas can also be obtained by using bone meal on moss. Bone meal is an item that you can obtain from compost or bones, which will speed the growth of plants. When added to a moss block, the moss will spread in the area, creating azalea bushes, grass, moss carpets, and additional moss.

Unlike regular grass, moss can spread to rock-type blocks. In the image above, you can see a single moss block placed on a stone surface. When bone meal is added, the moss converts the surrounding stone to moss as well.

Tip: If you are looking to dig down to bedrock quickly, try using moss blocks to tunnel your way down. Moss mines faster than rock-type blocks, so you can convert the rocks to moss, and then quickly remove them.

Azalea Block Variations

As mentioned earlier, there are four variations of azalea blocks. Flowering azaleas and normal azaleas are essentially bushes. These are the variations that you can find within the lush caves or by using bone meal on moss. Flowering azaleas function similarly to flowers; bees will pollinate this flowering bush if they are nearby.

Azalea leaves and flowering azalea leaves can only be obtained from fully grown azalea trees. To collect these blocks, you will need to use shears on the tree, or harvest them with a tool that has been enchanted with silk touch.

Growing An Azalea Tree

Azalea trees will not grow naturally in the world. Instead, you will need to add bone meal to a smaller azalea bush. Bone meal will have a 45 percent chance to grow the azalea into a full tree, which can be seen above.

Although there are two variations of the azalea, the tree will not be affected by this. Regardless of which azalea variation you use to grow a tree, it will look the same. When chopping down the azalea tree, you will receive oak logs.

Azaleas In Flowerpots

Lastly, azaleas can be placed inside flowerpots. Above, you can see the two azalea variations inside flowerpots, with a smaller appearance. This is purely for decoration; azaleas cannot grow into trees when placed in a flowerpot.
