Minecraft: Where To Find Azalea Trees - Game Rant

In Minecraft, blocks are everything. For most players, the game is about collecting various blocks and using them to build elaborate projects that suit their vision. With Minecraft's 1.17 update, the first part of Caves and Cliffs, the development team at Mojang has added Azalea trees to the game, a rare variant of Oak trees that grow on grass blocks. This article will cover where to find them, how to obtain them, and what they bring to the table.
Azalea Trees in Minecraft
The most surefire way to find an Azalea tree in Minecraft is to look for lush caves, a temperate Overworld cave biome, as Azalea trees spawn directly on top of them. Conversely, the best means of searching for lush caves is by spotting an Azalea tree. The caves generate at any height underground, with the trees generating on an empty, available space at the top. Since their roots, consisting of rooted dirt and hanging roots, reach all the way down to the lush cave (even up to 80 blocks), this also makes them the only plant in the game with subterranean roots.

Mechanically speaking, an Azalea tree in Minecraft is an oak tree with azalea leaves, and as such, players can only obtain oak logs from harvesting by tool or hand. Other items of interest include azalea leaves and flowering Azalea Leaves, harvested by shears, though, which players can obtain azalea and flowering azalea, respectively.
Players can grow their own azalea tree through these items by using bone meal on them, replacing the block where the azalea was planted with rooted dirt. Similar to saplings, this method works on any of the numerous Minecraft biomes, and players aren't tied to growing an azalea exclusively in lush caves.
The other method, obviously, consists of looking for lush caves at cavern systems, including ones such as abandoned mineshafts or ravines. One important thing to note is that while the trees most commonly appear at the surface, there is a chance of an Azalea tree spawning inside the lush cave if there is enough room.
While there is no negativity tied to Azalea trees, some players feel that Minecraft is due to receive a new Overworld tree after the last one was added over 8 years ago in Minecraft's 1.7 patch, citing the overabundance of oak trees as one of the reasons why Azalea trees should be given their own log type. As it stands, Azalea trees are a niche and welcome addition to the game, but one that hasn't lived up to its full potential.
