The final preview of Minecraft Update 1.9 is now available for download, just 48 hours after Mojang surprised the game’s community with a pair of snapshots on Monday morning, and the studio behind the popular sandbox game finally has a firm timeline for the official debut of Minecraft 1.9.
Patch notes for Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 1 reveal a surprisingly small number of changes, implemented in the two days since Minecraft snapshots 16w07a and 16w07b debuted, but some noteworthy changes can still be found in what should be our final preview of Minecraft Update 1.9. For example, Mojang has increased the durability of shields, which should prove handy for anyone who prefers Minecraft servers with player-versus-player combat enabled. Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 1 also tweaks The End, bringing back the cages that used to protect certain crystals.
According to Mojang, the final build of Minecraft 1.9 will debut on Thursday, Feb. 25, likely during the same mid-morning window in which we typically see new Minecraft snapshots released. But it’s always possible a last-minute bug discovery could lead Mojang to delay the final build. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen the studio adjust its launch plans, or release a follow-up patch, for a new Minecraft update.

Increased durability of shields
Some crystals in the end are protected by cages again
Fixed some bugs
Fixed marker ArmorStands having passenger offset
Fixed weird player placement while riding an entity after swimming with elytra
Fixed a rail duplication glitch
