Biology
Munchlax is a teal Pokémon with a cream spot on its chest. Its round head is teal in the top half and cream on the bottom half. It has big, round eyes and large pointy ears. It has five-fingered hands and cream feet with three clawed toes. The fur close to the bottom of a Munchlax seems to resemble a robe. Munchlax has two pointy teeth that stick out of its mouth even if closed.
It is a hyperactive Pokémon. It does not mind walking and running from place to place as it looks for food, but it is usually very slow-moving. Munchlax is known to eat an enormous amount of food daily to equal its own body weight. Munchlax tends to store food in its long fur, although it sometimes forgets about its hidden food. Its stomach allows it to eat nearly anything, even rotten food, and they are indifferent to flavor. It can also eat many servings of food at a time without chewing and rarely gets full. It eats the most food of any Pokémon besides its Evolution, Snorlax. Munchlax tends to raid villages for food intended to be thrown away.

NPC appearances
In the core series
These notable Trainers all use Munchlax:
Professor Rowan send out a Munchlax during Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum's intro sequence.
Barry owns a Munchlax in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum and in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It eventually evolves into a Snorlax.
The player's house's in Pokémon Sword and Shield is seen to have a Munchlax living with them, possibly belonging to their mother.
Mai owns a Munchlax in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. He plays an important role and mechanic in the Daybreak storyline, where he is able to determine the Pokémon who spawn within a Massive mass outbreak by feeding him Aguav Berries. Munchlax is also battled throughout the plot and in rematches against Mai. As custom of the Diamond Clan, Munchlax is not kept in a Poké Ball, often being seen along side his partner.
In the spinoff games
Pokémon Dash: Munchlax is one of the opponents in the Regular GP mode.
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness: A Munchlax belonging to the Herbalist from Gateon Port might appear at a Poké Spot if Poké Snacks are left there, eating the bait in the place of a wild Pokémon. Its Trainer will give 10 Poké Snacks to replace any Munchlax ate.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team: Munchlax may randomly appear in Pokémon Square asking for food. It will give the player a Munch Belt in return. Despite being unobtainable in the game, it is programmed to evolve into Snorlax at Level 40, and is only capable of learning Tackle.
Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia: Munchlax can be chosen to be the player's first Partner Pokémon, or can be obtained by clearing a quest in Chicole Village.

Diamond & Pearl arc
Main article: Lax (Adventures)
Diamond owns a Munchlax named Lax which, like him, has a very gluttonous nature, prone to eating dozens of people's worth of snacks out the get-go. Despite being a baby Pokémon with little training, he showed considerable stamina and durability when being used by Platinum to fight Fantina. He also often hides countless Berries under his fur to serve as distractions. He first appeared in Stagestruck Starly.
Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc
Another Munchlax appeared in The Announcement and the Prize under the ownership of Professor Kukui. It battled in the Iki Town festival tournament and lost against Sun's Litten.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!
In Find Munchlax!!, a Collector, a Ruin Maniac, a Psychic, and a Team Galactic Grunt all searched for a Munchlax, which was said to be very rare. Its Pickup Ability took Hareta's Pokédex, but Munchlax returned it later.

After being released from a Poké Ball, Munchlax walks around and uses Pickup to eat items on the stage. However, it will not eat a living item, an Assist Trophy, or a Poké Ball.
Trophy information
"A Big Eater Pokémon. It's normally a slow-moving creature, but when it sees food it moves surprisingly fast. It's native in the Sinnoh region and can be lured out by coating certain trees with sweet honey. Once it grows attached to its trainer, it levels up and evolves into Snorlax."
Trivia
Munchlax, along with Shuckle and Pyukumuku, has the lowest base Speed stat of all Pokémon.
Munchlax has the highest base stat total of any baby Pokémon.
Munchlax's English name was first revealed on October 9, 2004.
Munchlax appeared in four games before its generation. Ordered by release date, they are: Pokémon Dash, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Pokémon Team Turbo, and Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.
Although obtainable through hacking in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness as it has an index number, unlike Bonsly, it is unusable as it was not programmed to be used in battle.
Munchlax's index number is the very last in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (excluding Unown forms).
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Munchlax's trophy information states it first appeared in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl instead of Pokémon Dash. This is a similar case with Bonsly and Togepi.
Munchlax's evolutionary line is the only one to have all of its members appear from a Poké Ball within a single Super Smash Bros. game.
Design variations
The width of Munchlax's mouth has been depicted inconsistently over time. Initially, it was shown to open from the middle of its face, as is depicted in its official artwork and in early animated series appearances. This was also evident in its in-battle sprites. However, some games, such as Pokémon Battle Revolution and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, showed Munchlax with wider mouth designs. The later 3D games and most contemporary animated appearances depict Munchlax with an even wider mouth that spans most of the line between blue and tan fur on its face. Notably, Munchlax is one of the few Pokémon whose Pokémon HOME model differs from its official artwork by incorporating this different mouth design.

Origin
Munchlax appears to be based on a baby bear. Its eating habits correspond to those of bears preparing to hibernate, including the consumption of honey (Munchlax is found in honey-slathered trees). Its habit of searching garbage and compost while looking for food is another behavior associated with bears. The yellow patch of fur over its chest resembles a baby's bib.
Name origin
Munchlax may be a combination of munch (to chew on food) and lax, relax, or Snorlax.
Gonbe may be a combination of カビゴン Kabigon (Snorlax), baby, and possibly a play on 権兵衛 Gonbē (common placeholder name for peasants in the old days).
