New Photo Raises Kyler Murray's Height Concerns - 247 Sports

Despite measuring in at a taller-than-expected 5-foot-10 and change at the NFL Combine, Arizona Cardinals No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray is still facing the music when it comes to height concerns ahead of his first season in the NFL.

Murray's lack of size was one of the primary storylines in the pre-draft lead as several teams and scouts were reportedly incredibly skeptical of his ability at the next level being under 6-foot and just over 200 pounds.

Now, a photo has surfaced from an NFL rookie event that is bringing some of those naysayers back to the forefront.

At last week's NFLPA Rookie Premiere event, Murray — and other first-year players — gathered for a group photo and there's one particular image showing a noticeable height disparity. Murray is pictured standing beside former Oklahoma teammate Marquise Brown in the front row and appears shorter than the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver.

Murray declined measuring his height at Oklahoma's Pro Day prior to the draft.

Sooners coach Lincoln Riley addressed Murray's height questions earlier this year prior to the combine.

“I get it,” Riley said. “If you’ve never worked with a guy, you may have those reservations. I didn’t know what it would be like working with Baker (Mayfield), working with Kyler until I went through the fire with them. I knew they were talented guys, but at the same time, you might have to make concessions for the fact that they aren’t prototypical height guys.

“Once I got going with them, we never had to make those concessions. It was no different. I’ve had 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 guys and it was no different. These guys have a gift to be able to do it. I’m not saying every NFL quarterback can do it at that height. They can’t. But there’s guys that are gifted enough and are able to still get it done, still get the ball out where they need it to be and not having tipped passes. These are two of the guys in the world that can do that.”

Murray won the Heisman last season with the Sooners after shattering numerous single-season records for total offense. He managed a 69.0 completion percentage while throwing for 4,361 yards — third-most in the country — rushing for 1,001 yards and racking up 54 total touchdowns for the Playoff-bound Big 12 champs.

Murray was listed at at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds on Oklahoma's football roster last season and 5-foot-11 inside the Sooners' baseball program. He's trying to become the latest sub 6-foot quarterback to dazzle at the next level as a dual-threat playmaker.

Ironically, the NFL's highest-paid quarterback, Russell Wilson, is 5-11.
