About us

North Sails is a unique sailmaker, built on a champion spirit. Founded in 1957 by Lowell North who applied an engineer’s logic to a traditional craft, North Sails transformed the industry and has become the world leader in sailmaking technology. North Sails is the largest division of North Technology Group and the brand’s history of innovation and winning has continued to produce generations of product breakthroughs and champions. North Sails holds the patent for 3Di, a unique composite construction process that produces high-performance sails that approach the shape holding of a rigid foil. North Sails is the sailmaker of choice on the majority of America’s Cup, Grand Prix, ocean race boats and Superyachts. North Sails offers a wide range of performance 3D and paneled sails for cruising sailors and is the world’s leading sailmaker for one-design classes with more National, World and Olympic Class victories than all other sailmakers combined. In 2014, the brand expanded their profile to include North Sails Apparel, a lifestyle collection that brings the sailmaker’s love of design and technology into fashion. North Sails adapts the sailmaking mastery into high-performance collections made to resist wind and water. The apparel collections continually develop element-defying materials that allow users to navigate the sea and modern life. Follow North Sails on Instagram www.instagram.com/northsails

Seventeen editions in and the Royal Ocean Racing Club Caribbean 600 still finds new ways to test you. This year the trades shifted further south-east, turning what can be a flat-out reaching race into something far more technical. It wasn’t just about speed. It was about staying clean and making the right calls, again and again. North Sails was on board for Monohull Line Honours with Remon Vos’ Black Jack 100, after a head-to-head maxi battle around the islands. Jason Carroll’s North-powered Argo claimed Multihull Line Honours after one of the closest MOD70 finishes in race history. In IRC Zero, Antoine Magre’s Palanad 4 secured victory, with James Neville’s Ino Noir second and Niklas Zennström’s Rán third. A full North-powered podium. IRC One saw Bruce Chafee’s Rikki come out on top after a close fight on corrected time, while in IRC Two Richard Dilley’s Belladonna claimed class honours and Ray Rhinelander’s J/133  Bella J, skippered by Sarah Nicholson, secured second after a hard push around the course. A huge showing from the North-powered fleet, and we're already looking forward to the next one! #NSVictoryList #NorthSails #Caribbean600 #RORC 📸 Paul Wyeth | Arthur Daniel | Tim Wright | RORC

North Sails is advancing material science to unlock new levels of performance. Relentless curiosity and constant innovation are threaded into our DNA. ⛵ There’s a story about Lowell North, the genius who started North Sails back in 1957, and it tells how he attached different strips of potential new sail cloth material to the radio aerial on his car. He would periodically check the strips to see how well the cloth was holding up to fluttering in the wind. It was a simple but effective fatigue test, and probably the first example of materials testing in sailmaking. This mindset remains central to the North Advanced Materials Group today. If the material they need doesn’t exist, they’re driven to create it. This extraordinary, ground‑up approach is what gives North Sails its enduring technology advantage. By understanding chemistry at a molecular level, our team is doing more than just making sails; they are engineering high-performance fabrics that didn't exist yesterday. If a required material doesn’t exist, the Advanced Materials Group will create it. It’s this ground-up approach that allows us to maintain a technology advantage in the industry. In performance driven programs, materials are a strategic decision. Chris Bobyk has been racing his family’s Beneteau First 10R, BLAST, on Lake Ontario for years. When they switched to #North3Di, the difference was immediate. The boat felt more settled. Easier to trim. Quicker to lock into gear. And the results followed. They hold their shape. They last. And they stay consistent through a full season of racing. For competitive teams, that level of durability and aerodynamic stability is not just a benefit, it is a competitive advantage. If you’ve made the move to 3Di, what did you notice first? Discover more 👉 https://bit.ly/46WF05u #NorthSails #Sailing #NorthSailsAdvantage

Congratulations to North-powered BlackJack 100 for taking Monohull Line Honours at the 2026 Royal Ocean Racing Club Caribbean 600. After two full days pushing hard around the islands, Tristan Le Brun and the crew never let up. They crossed the line in 1d 20h 31m, every tack, every shift, every mile counting toward a proper fight to the finish. #Caribbean600 #NSVictoryList #Antigua #yachting #northsails 📸 RORC | Tim Wright

Line honours in the Royal Ocean Racing Club Caribbean 600 are never handed over, they’re earned through a full-on push from start to finish. Jason Carroll’s MOD70 Argo claimed Multihull Line Honours in 1 day, 12 hours, 1 minute, and 46 seconds, delivering a fast, committed lap of the Caribbean course with no room to ease off. It stayed close all the way around, with Jon Desmond’s MOD70 Zoulou finishing just a mile behind, showing how tight the margins are at this level over 600 offshore miles. A serious performance from both crews in one of offshore racing’s toughest races. #NSVictoryList #caribbean600 #sailing #northsails 📸 RORC

Bacardi Winter Series Event No.2 delivered nine races across three days on Biscayne Bay, testing teams in everything from light air to a 20-knot finale. In the Melges 24 fleet, Flying Jenny with Sandy Askew at the helm secured the overall win after a dramatic final race that came down to the discard. A composed performance under pressure. Fellow North-powered Zenda Express, helmed by Harry Melges, finished third overall in a tightly contested podium battle. In the J/70 class, Hedgehog put together a strong and consistent series to claim second overall, also taking the Corinthian title. Up next, Miami’s winter schedule moves into its biggest stretch. The 99th Bacardi Cup will see the Star Class take center stage, followed closely by the Bacardi Invitational Regatta, bringing J/70s, Melges 24s, VX Ones and Snipes back onto Biscayne Bay. The season is building toward a strong championship finish. #NorthSails #BacardiWinterSeries #NorthPowered #Melges24 #J70 📸 Hannah Lee Noll | Bacardi Regatta

Three races into Bacardi Winter Series Event No.2, and the Melges 24 fleet is already taking shape on Biscayne Bay. Leading the charge is Sandy Askew’s Flying Jenny, setting the tone in light, technical conditions on Day One. Confident decisions and sharp execution put the team at the front early, showing strong pace in tricky racing. Right behind, Harry Melges’ Zenda Express and Laura Grondin’s Dark Energy are firmly in the mix, proving that consistency and speed in low-pressure conditions make all the difference. It’s a North-powered sweep across the top three. Racing continues today, stay tuned. 👀 #Sailing #NorthSails #BiscanyeBay #Melges24 📸 Hannah Lee Noll | 2026 Bacardi Winter Series
