Ozark: Jason Bateman stars in thrilling season three trailer
Ozark is one of Netflix’s most popular shows and season three has just landed on the streaming platform. The show is so popular partly due to the evocative landscape that provides a backdrop to the series. Fans not familiar with American geography have been left wondering where exactly the Ozarks are and where the show is set. Read on for everything you need to know about the settings and location of the series.
Where are the Ozarks?
The Ozarks are an area in the Midwest of America made up of two mountain ranges.

The area is around 47,000 square miles and includes land from the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
In the north of the area is the Lake of the Ozarks, a 14,000 square mile reservoir.

Marty (played by Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) live close to this body of water in Ozark.
Though the Ozarks as a whole faces problems with poverty and drugs as depicted in the show, the ‘lake’ is actually a popular tourist resort.
Radio Times reports that the area welcomes five million tourists a year.
In 2016, USA Today named the Lake of the Ozarks America’s Best Recreational Lake.
Filming locations for season 3 in Georgia include Canton, Woodstock, Norcross, Marietta, Braselton and Atlanta.

Where is Ozark set?
Ozark was, for the most part, not actually filmed in the area.
Due to the popularity of the area as a tourist destination, a number of scenes actually had to be shot in Georgia.
Among the lakes which Netflix filmed the series on are Lanier and Allatoona.
Season three sees a time jump and is set six months on from the previous events, which saw Marty discussing plans for a new casino.
At the start of the new series the casino plans have moved forward and this is where the money-laundering takes place.

However, occasional scenes were shot on location in the Ozarks.
These include the memorable scene in the first ever episode, in which a very small Wendy and Marty are seen dwarfed by the scenery of the area.
This was shot at Lover’s Leap on the west side of the ‘lake’ close to a town called Linn Creek.
Other exteriors have featured the Bagnell Dam, which formed the reservoir in the first place.
