Parasyte: The Maxim is an intriguing story that follows the life of young Shinichi Izumi, before and after his encounter with the alien parasite, Migi. Migi and his kind invaded Earth and many managed to successfully take full control of their hosts' body. Of course, Shinichi successfully defended himself against Migi, who was only able to control his right arm. The two slowly form a bond and, before long, they come to deeply depend on each other.

Shinichi faced many perils throughout the story and they all forced him to grow, making way for a compelling story. Parasyte manages to interweave Shinichi's tragic journey, along with commentaries on the nature of humanity, which was handled really well and resulted in an all-around fantastic anime. These are the best fights we see in the show.

10 SHINICHI VS MOM

Unquestionably one of the more emotional fights during the series. Shinichi must defeat a parasite wearing the face of his own mother. At first, this is incredibly hard for Shinichi to come to terms with and, due to this naivety, he is struck through the heart.

Migi manages to merge with Shinichi's damaged heart in order to save him. After recovering, Shinichi challenges the parasite again and quickly gains the upper hand, but hesitates at the most crucial moment. This presents the parasite with an opportunity to counterattack but, before it can do so, it is killed by Uda.

9 SHIN VS MR. A

Mr A is the parasite-human that confronts Shinichi inside his school after feeling threatened by his existence. Mr. A is one of the most violent parasites around and he will not hesitate to attack anybody he considers a threat. This causes him to attack Shinichi who, with the help of Migi, must defend himself.

At first, Shinichi wishes not to bring harm to the creature but the longer the fight goes on, the more he realizes that battle amongst parasite-humans is a matter of life and death. To win the fight, Shinichi slowly closed his distance on Mr. A before impaling him with a piece of steel. This left the parasite on its last legs and it managed to flee the scene, before eventually collapsing.

8 GOTOU VS POLICE

Amongst all living beings seen in the Parasyte world, Gotou stands on top as the apex predator. His physical skills are finely tuned and his animalistic instinct means he's a major threat in a fight. This, coupled with his impressive regenerative abilities, makes him extremely hard to kill through conventional means, as the police force found out.

The police force confronted Goutou with numerous assault rifles and blasted an uncountable number of holes through him. When faced with this, the parasite absorbed the bullets into his skin, before repelling them with greater force at the officers.

7 POLICE FORCE VS THE PARASITES

This is one of the more repulsive fights in Parasyte: The Maxim, due to how the officers ruthlessly execute anybody suspected of being a parasite.

After a hostage situation goes horribly wrong, parasites start revealing themselves one by one. Each time they reveal themselves, the police launch a volley of shots to put them down. However, with each revelation, the officers became more and more unhinged. Eventually, they end up sacrificing several innocent lives in order to stop a couple of parasites.

6 GOTOU VS THE MAFIA

Gotou is an extremely intelligent parasite, who has a strong belief that he's superior to humans. The first time we see him, he attacks a mafia gang and easily wipes them out without encountering a problem.

His immense physical capabilities meant it was easy for him to overwhelm them with speed and power. This was a truly stunning and brutal fight, with Gotou finishing most of his victims in a single hit.

5 MIKI VS SHINICHI

Miki is one of the strongest parasites we come across during the series. He's a skilled combatant who relies massively on his physical strength. As one of the parasites in Gotou's body, he is extremely resourceful and can beat most competitors.

This fight was hard-fought between both competitors and, for a large part of the match, Miki had the advantage due to having several other parasites assisting him.

4 SHINICHI VS KAWADA

Kawada is a highly skilled combatant, so much so that Migi knew he and Shinichi needed to be fully focused if they were supposed to defeat him. An exciting and fast-paced fight occurs.

In the beginning, Shinchi and Kawada are evenly matched, but after Migi adjusts his position, the fight is over in a flash. Migi slashes through his opponent's knees, causing him to stumble, before making another incision across his chest. Kawada quickly recovers from this but, again, Migi outmaneuvers him, this time applying a fatal wound. Shinichi manages to get in close and behead the host but, due to the multiple parasites in the host's body, it was able to carry on living.

3 THE BATTLE OF THE PARASITES

This fight happened on a dark night when several parasites, including but not limited to Reiko Tamura, Hikawa and Kusano, showed up to an abandoned building. Hikawa and Kusano confronted Reiko, believing her to be a traitor, then attacked her. This action ultimately led to their deaths.

This is one of the more intriguing fights in Parasyte, due to it being one of the rare parasite vs parasite fights that doesn't include Shinichi. The fight was well choreographed and its brutality suits the tone of the series excellently.

2 SHINICHI VS KANA'S KILLER

In trying to sense Shinichi, Kana Kimishima managed to unknowingly give her location away to a nearby parasite. He cornered her in a narrow building but she managed to escape and, just as she's about to run to Shinichi, she's struck down by the parasite, dying in Shinichi's arms.

An incensed Shinichi sprints towards Kana's killer while telling Migi to focus on defending his attacks. Migi does this and, as his opponent is preoccupied with Migi's defense, Shinichi sidesteps him before ripping his heart out. A truly emotional and gruesome fight, not one for those with a weak stomach.

1 SHINICHI VS GOTOU FINAL FIGHT

Despite noticing what little chance he and Migi has facing Gotou, Shinichi still insists on fighting him for the greater good. As to be expected, Shinichi spends much of this battle running or looking for an opportunity to cleverly attack Gotou. This strategy, though pragmatic, also happens to be the best bet against something as overwhelmingly powerful as Gotou.

After scurrying away for much of the fight, Shinichi eventually goes on the offensive and manages to pierce the monster with a rusty piece of pipe. As Gotou is about to finish Shinichi off, Migi rushes back and manages to save him before it was too late. Soon after, Gotou dies due to toxins from the rusty pipe causing the parasites within Gouto's host body to rebel, resulting in him exploding.
