Pokémon Sword & Shield: How To Find & Evolve Wooloo Into ...

All hail Wooloo, the greatest Pokémon of generation eight! At least that's what you'll believe if you spent enough time on the internet leading up to Pokémon Sword and Shield's launch. Now that the game is out, Wooloo has maintained its passionate following. This is mostly thanks to how much screen time it gets in the game's story, being both the star of a gym mission and a key player on rival Hop's team. If you want to make like Hop and get a little sheep buddy, we'll tell you how.

Wooloo is one of the simpler Pokémon designs, hearkening back to that "golden age" when Pokémon were more based on animals than objects (first gen fans tend to forget that Voltorb and Grimer exist). Wooloo and Dubwool are literally sheep, particularly of breeds native to Great Britain. They also seem to be based on balls given their penchant for rolling away. Dubwool in particular might be referencing a soccer ball with its black-on-white wool pattern. Since the sheep tend to prefer to graze in lush hills, they make their home in Sword and Shield's pastoral beginning town.

Where To Find Wooloo

via: Serebii

Wooloo is available right away on Route 1. Trusted Pokémon resource Serebii says it has about a 15% spawn rate on the route, but you should see one walking about pretty quickly. Higher level Wooloo, about 13-15, can be found in the tall grass on Route 4. Finally, the highest level Wooloo can be caught in the Wild Area's Motostoke Riverbank, where they will sometimes spawn in the open around level 30.

If you'd rather see what a giant Wooloo looks like, they can be encountered in Max Raid Battles at the Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, Rolling Fields, and Stony Wilderness parts of the Wild Area.

As a Route 1 Pokémon, Wooloo's evolution method is extremely simple. Just get it to level 30. Then it will bulk up and grow some horns to become Dubwool.

If you want to skip Wooloo and catch a Dubwool straight away (why would you, you monster?), you can find them in the Wild Area. They can be found in the Dusty Bowl, Hammerlocke Hills, and Motostoke Riverbank zones. Dubwool Max Raid Battles can happen in the Bridge Field, East Lake Axewell, Motostoke Riverbank, Rolling Fields, Stony Wilderness areas.

What Dubwool Does In Battle

If you haven't guessed, the fluffy sheep makes for a decent tank. Its physical Defense is its highest stat, meaning it can take more than a few hits from the fierce Dragon and Rock-types players love to use. Its Fluffy ability makes it even more durable, although it becomes vulnerable to fire as a consequence.

A fun attack to give it is the brand new Body Press. This calculates the damage based on Dubwool's Defense stat rather than its Attack. Dubwool can also make good use of the ol' Rest/Sleep Talk combo. It's nowhere near as bulky as Snorlax, but it can still annoy opponents by being a Pokémon that literally keeps on rolling with the punches.
