What Are Potatoes and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Potatoes are a source of food in Minecraft. They can also be used to breed Pigs and Villagers. Other than that, potatoes can't be used for anything else.

Where to Find Potatoes

Potatoes can often be found in several locations in-game. Below is a chart of where Potatoes spawn, where to find them, how many spawn, and the chances of you finding them for both Java and Bedrock.Bedrock

Specific mobs are known to drop Potatoes too. They have a 2.5% chance of dropping them upon death. Below is a list of the mobs that are known to drop Potatoes.

  • Zombie and Zombie Villager
  • Husk

There's also a 20% that a village will have a Potato farm when discovered.

How to Grow Potatoes

To farm Potatoes, you'll need to have at least one in your inventory first.

Now that you have a potato, use a hoe on any grass block touching the water and plant the potato.

After it is planted, wait for it to grow fully, or use some bone meal to speed up the process. And once it's fully grown, you can harvest it, and you'll have Potatoes.

How to Cook Potatoes

Potatoes can be cooked with two different items in-game to make a Baked Potato. Below are items you can use to cook a potato.

  • Furnace
  • Campfire

How Much Does a Potato Refill Your Hunger Bar For

Potatoes aren't the ideal food to eat in their base form. Although it's perfectly safe, they don't do too much. Below you'll see how many hunger bars a potato refills.

  • 1 Hunger Bar

What Are Baked Potatoes and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Baked Potatoes are potatoes that have been cooked. They refill more hunger bars than a regular potato does too. There's also a 54.9% chance that players can find 1-10 of them in the Ice Box Chest in the Ancient City on Java and Bedrock.

What Are Baked Poisonous Potatoes and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Poisonous Potatoes are potatoes that have a 60% chance of poisoning players. They can spawn when harvesting potatoes, but they're considered rare and have a 2% chance of dropping. There's also a 42.1% chance players can find 2-6 in the supply chest in a Shipwreck on Java and Bedrock.

How Much Does a Poisonous Potato Refill Your Hunger Bar For

They aren't ideal for eating because you'll be poisoned even though they'll refill your hunger bar. Below you'll see how many hunger bars a Poisonous Potato refill and how long the poison effect lasts.
