Note: This calculator provides an estimate only; actual calories burned vary by pace, form, range of motion, rest, and individual fitness. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are starting a new exercise program, consider checking with a qualified clinician or trainer. Push Up Calories Formula

The following MET-based equation is commonly used to estimate calories burned from exercise using body weight and time (MET values are commonly listed in activity compendiums such as the “Compendium of Physical Activities”).

C = MET × 3.5 × W_{kg} × M / 200
  • Where C is the estimated calories burned
  • MET is the activity intensity factor
  • W is body weight (kg)
  • M is time (minutes)

Push Up Calories Definition

Push-up calories are the estimated number of calories your body burns while performing push-ups. Because calorie burn depends heavily on pace, form, range of motion, and rest, results should be treated as approximate.

If you prefer a “per push-up” estimate, a practical approach is to estimate total calories for a continuous set (using time and weight), then divide by the number of repetitions performed during that time. The examples below assume a 150 lb person doing standard push-ups continuously at about 30 pushups/min (so ~0.32 calories per push-up as a rough estimate).

  • 5 pushups ≈ 1.6 calories
  • 15 pushups ≈ 4.8 calories
  • 50 pushups ≈ 16 calories
  • 100 pushups ≈ 32 calories
  • 200 pushups ≈ 64 calories

Push Up Calories Example

How to estimate calories burned from push-ups?

  1. First, enter your weight.

Enter your current body weight (in pounds).

  2. Next, choose the push-up type.

Select standard (higher intensity) or modified (lower intensity).

  3. Next, enter time (minutes) or reps and pace.

Enter the total minutes of continuous push-ups, or enter your number of pushups and your pace (pushups per minute) to estimate minutes.

  4. Finally, calculate the estimate.

Click Calculate to get an estimated calorie burn.

FAQ

How many calories does a pushup burn?

It varies widely based on pace, form, and body weight. A rough way to estimate is to calculate calories for a set duration of continuous push-ups (using a MET-based method) and then divide by the number of reps performed in that time. For many people this can come out to roughly a few tenths of a calorie per push-up, but it can be meaningfully higher or lower.
