The push-up is primarily done to build strength, in mainly your chest, shoulders, triceps and core area and challenge your power, stability and endurance.
Push-ups are thought of mainly as a muscle-building move, of course, but it is still important to know just how many calories you are burning while doing them.
How many calories are burned from doing push-ups?
The average number of calories burned while performing push-ups is seven calories per minute, but this varies from person to person.
There are four main variables when calculating the energy expended:
- Sex - Males usually burn more calories than females, even if they are performing the same exercises, as they generally have more muscle mass and less fat.
- Height and weight - the bigger you are, the more calories you burn when doing exercise.
- Age - the older you are, the less calories you burn due to a decrease in muscle and increase in fat on the body
- Intensity - the higher number of push-ups you perform and the faster you do the, the more calories will be burned off.
