'Real Time With Bill Maher' Returns For Season 20 - Oregon Live

He may inspire strong reactions from viewers at every point on the political spectrum, but Bill Maher must be doing something right, as “Real Time With Bill Maher” returns for Season 20 on Friday night. The host, who was a pioneer in the comedy-meets-commentary blend that is now everywhere in late-night TV, should have plenty to talk about as his 2022 shows begin.

(”Real Time With Bill Maher” premieres new episodes at 10 p.m. Fridays on HBO; you can stream the show on HBO Max)

For the Jan. 21 episode of “Real Time,” Maher’s scheduled guests include Yale University professor of history Timothy Snyder, author of “On Tyranny Graphic Edition: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century.” The panel discussion guests are Bari Weiss, host of the “Honestly” podcast and editor of the newsletter “Common Sense” on Substack; and Rep. Ritchie Torres, a Democratic congressman who, as the press material say, at age 25, “became New York City’s youngest elected official and the first Afro-Latino, LGBTQ member of Congress.”

Judging from the interview with Maher posted today on Deadline, in Season 20, the host can be expected to continue discussing topics likely to inflame debate, including COVID-19, vaccines, Donald Trump, his view that many people on the left lack “common sense,” and more.
