Salted caramel cold foam is cold heavy cream, milk, caramel sauce, and salt frothed together without heat or steam.
It’s perfectly sweet, salty, and delicious. Add it to cold drinks instead of milk or cream.
All cold foams at Starbucks are made in a special blender that uses a circular disc to achieve fluffy cold foam but it can easily be recreated at home using a French press.

- Heavy cream: Heavy cream is needed to get the right consistency to fluff up the cold foam.
- 2% milk: Starbucks uses 2% milk but you can use any milk you like.
- Use store-bought caramel sauce because it’s much easier than making your own.
- Sea salt: Salt brings out the sweetness of caramel.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Put all ingredients into a French press. Stir to make sure the thick caramel doesn’t sit at the bottom.

Step 2: Place the lid and move the plunger up and down. The cold foam will increase in volume.
Pour onto an iced drink and serve immediately.

Best cold foam has tiny bubbles.
Cold foam is made by adding air to the cream and milk, creating little bubbles. The more uniform and tiny bubbles you can create in your foam, the more velvety the cold foam texture will be.
Use half & half as a shortcut.
If you want cold foam with less calories or to make things easier, replace the heavy cream and milk with ⅓ cup of half & half. Half & half is half cream and half milk.
Don’t overfill or underfill the French press.
Cold foam will increase in size so don’t overfill the French press. Don’t underfill the French press either, or it won’t froth properly. Make sure the French press filter is touching the liquids before moving the plunger.
Expert Tips
- A will also make cold foam, but the French press does a better job. You can use an electric milk frother, like an on the cold setting.
- Salted caramel cold foam can be poured on top of any iced drink, replacing milk or sweeteners. Try cold foam on top of a cold brew, iced Americano, or iced latte.
- Cold foam can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for 2 days. It will deflate over time, so give it a stir or a shake before serving.
