Applies ToTeams Microsoft Teams

If you're looking for a specific person or file in Microsoft Teams, use the Search bar to find what you need.

Try it!

Search for people

1. At the top of Teams, type a name in the Search bar.

2. Choose a suggested name, or press Enter to show more search results. To view more people results, select More people or select the People tab.

3. On the People tab, view additional contact cards. 

4. Choose a name to open a chat with that person.

Search for files

1. In the Search bar, type a file keyword and press Enter.

2. Do one of the following:​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

   • Choose a file result.

   • Or, to view more file results, select View all results. Filter files based on:​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

     • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​In - to show files from a team, channel, or chat.

       • File Type - to filter files by a certain file type.

       • Person - to show files edited by a specific person.

       • Date - to filter files by date.

   • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Or, select the Files tab.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

3. ​​​​​​​Select a file to open and view it in a browser.
