How Much is a Personal Chef in Seattle?
Most personal chefs charge by the hour for their time. This ranges from $75-125 per hour in the Seattle area. Our fee for personal chef service is $95 per hour.
Meal Preparation
Depending on the number of meals, portions per meal, and number of people we're cooking for, it can take anywhere from 3.5 to 6.5 hours in the kitchen preparing your meals.
Menu Design & Shopping
Personal chefs also spend 1 to 1.5 hours outside the kitchen on menu planning and shopping for ingredients.
Ingredients
That other major factor is the cost of the ingredients, which can vary from $60 - $130 per week depending on your number of meals, menu choice, and whether you prefer shopping at a high-end, organic grocery store vs a typical grocery store.

Brooke Wallace 7/06/2025 Down to Earth has genuinely changed my life. I have an eating disorder and have tried just about every meal service out there—local, national, big-name, small-batch—you name it. For whatever reason, I just couldn't find one I was comfortable eating, until finding Down to Earth! The meals don’t feel like prepped food or a generic delivery service. They taste like someone who knows me made a nourishing meal in my own kitchen, with care and real ingredients. There’s something deeply comforting about that. For the first time in a long time, I actually enjoy eating. I’m so grateful I found this service—it’s been a turning point in my recovery, and I truly can’t thank the Down to Earth team enough.read more
Phil James 5/25/2025 This review is long overdue - six and a half years, to be sure, but the gratitude I feel for the unforgettable culinary experience at our Woodinville wedding in 2018 is still as vivid as ever.Chef David and Down to Earth Cuisine delivered far more than a meal; they created a moment. From the initial tasting to the final bite on our big day, every interaction was thoughtful, professional, and personal. The food was exquisite - beautifully presented, perfectly timed, and absolutely delicious. The menu was nothing short of exceptional. The braised beet salad with pistachio purée, shaved pear, burrata, and blueberry was a complete showstopper; almost too good to be just an appetizer 😉. Equally memorable was the oxtail ragout, which was perfectly rich and comforting, paired with rosemary polenta and a delicate sherry gastrique. Our guests still talk about it to this day. Both the pan-seared halibut and filet entrées were cooked with absolute precision and paired with unexpected yet beautiful elements like bacon cauliflower purée and pickled parsnip. What impressed us just as much as the food was the team’s quiet mastery. No event is without its inevitable behind-the-scenes challenges, but Chef David and his crew handled everything with such poise and professionalism that we were never once aware of a single hiccup. Their preparation was thoughtful, their execution flawless, and their service delivered with true heart. If you’re lucky enough to work with Chef David, do. He brings talent, care, and a personal touch that’s rare and unforgettable.Though this review is long overdue, it in no way reflects a lack of gratitude for the unforgettable experience.Thank you, Chef David.read more

Teddi Readinger 9/07/2024 We celebrated my mom's 80th birthday this past weekend with an amazing meal from Down to Earth Cuisine. Chefs Tom and Dean worked magic in the kitchen to craft a meal that my mom, who has traveled and entertained extensively, called one of the best meals she has ever had. My family has some specific dietary requirements and I was a little nervous when I first contacted David, the owner, and requested not only a gluten-free meal, but a dessert made without refined sugar. He assured me that not only could he accommodate these requests but we would be more than satisfied with the outcome. He was not wrong. Not only was the entire meal gluten-free, but was modified for one diner to be vegetarian. In addition, the amazing dessert was made with honey and not refined sugar. With all of these restrictions, you might think the flavor would suffer but nothing could be further from the truth…fresh, quality ingredients win every time and the results were delicious. Chef Tom explained every course and how it was prepared, and worked with me on any questions I had. The kitchen was cleaner when Chefs Tom and Dean left than when they arrived. And David recommended some wonderful wine pairing suggestions for each course. I cannot recommend this service enough! Thank you, Down to Earth Cuisine, for helping make my mom’s 80th birthday such a special occasion!read more

Call (206) 859-1353Is Hiring a Personal Chef Worth it?
If you’ve read this far, chances are you want to know if it’s worth it. We’ll let you be the judge of that. Consider these 4 parts when deciding if a personal chef is worth the investment:
- Current meal cost
- Your time
- Dietary needs
- Quality of meals
Your current meal costs
Add up your average monthly costs for the 3 categories below:
- How much do you spend eating out at restaurants?
- How much do you spend on takeout and food delivery services?
- How much do you spend on groceries when you cook at home?
How much time do you spend preparing meals
You know the saying, time is money! Most of our clients spend 10-12 hours a week on the 3 categories below. How much would you pay to get this time back in your week?
- Time spent planning meals, coming up with new ideas can be challenging
- Time spent shopping, avoiding crowded markets and traffic can be worth it alone
- Time spent preparing the meals
- Time spent packaging leftover
- Time spent cleaning, let's face it who wants to clean?
You only have 24 hours in a day. Spend it doing what you love, with the ones you love and don't waste a drop of a second doing anything else. Time is too precious.
Is your current meal plan meeting your dietary needs?
Eating properly can have a dramatic impact on your health. Ask yourself these questions:
- Do you have trouble meeting your diet when doing takeout and eating out?
- Do you have enough time to cook wholesome meals at home?
- Do your family members have different preferences that result in someone’s dietary needs suffering?
- Do you not feel so great when eating out? Having meals prepared from organic products can greatly benefit your overall well being.
Are you tired of eating the same things?
Here’s another saying - do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
We love designing creative menus, offering personalized suggestions, and seeing the excitement in your eyes when you give us feedback. Hiring a personal chef means you’ll never get bored of having the same meals ever again. Every day you’ll experience incredible flavors and textures, curated specifically to your palette. Hiring a personal chef will truly change the way you live and think about food.
