eric.walters1 E Hi all, my 2010 Impala LS just began showing a Service Airbag light. Code reader shows B0081-0F Passenger Presence Module - Signal Erratic. I wiggled/seated all three yellow connectors under the seat (didn't see any corrosion or issues). Reset the code with my code reader, but it comes right back on. I know some Impalas had a recall related to this, but my VIN does not flag as "open" on either the NHTSA site, or on the Chevrolet site. I've owned the car for about a year, so I guess it's possible the recall does not apply to my specific model, or the prior owner had it addressed. What would you check next? Any suggestions? Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Aug 10, 2019 Update on this: since no children ever ride in the front of this car, I am going to try an airbag emulator from Airbag360. It was $80. If it works as advertised, it will send a signal that the seat is occupied. This should enable the airbag and turn off the light. I feel safer with this, as compared to no airbag (or at least no airbag for passengers). #3 · Aug 11, 2019 I had a similar problem on a 2008 and 2011 Impala LTZ - both purchased new. Ironically, I bought a new 2014 Impala 2LTZ (new model), and on the way home on the day of purchase - the passenger presence system for the RF seat malfunctioned. It was fixed by the dealer under warranty, and then later - GM issued a safety recall for the problem. It obviously has been my experience that GM has a very poor track record regarding issues with the calibration of the passenger presence system. On the 2008 and 2011 models, the dealer recalibrated the RF passenger presence system to eliminate the light / code - and fix the system. My advice - I would NOT use any type of airbag emulator to defeat the problem. The air bag system is a critical safety component and you can not predict if it will function properly with the emulator. #4 · Aug 11, 2019 There's a TSB and maybe even a recall for this. The jacket on the Passenger Presence Sensor wiring rubs through on the seat frame giving you an erratic sensor signal. The harness on my car is wrapped in friction tape, and there is no open recall on my VIN. I think this probably indices the recall was completed. I didn't see any fraying or evidence of compromised wiring on the visible parts of the harness. I did pull the fuse and it looked fine. Still waiting for the emulator to arrive to see if that solves the problem. 0 Reply #7 · Aug 24, 2019 I wanted to let you all know how this turned out. The emulator arrived pretty quickly, and worked exactly as promised - the vehicle turns the passenger airbag on, and the SRS light is no longer on. I was able to clear the SRS code, and it has not returned. HOWEVER The passenger seat belt light now flashes, which of course is pretty logical when I think about it. The car thinks there is a passenger, so they should be wearing a seat belt. I can't really recommend this approach, but in my case, the car will never have a child in the front seat. My son is ok with just buckling the seat belt if nobody is there, to turn off the seat belt light. For us, it works. I doubt most people would be satisfied with this solution, but it's a lot less expensive than a passenger presence module, and keeps the safety feature of the airbag activated when there is a passenger.
