  • SS Payment Update: Why could I receive two payments in September?

Several US states have officially announced that they will offer additional Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to eligible families.

Households who meet the requirements for the extra food stamps will get these emergency allotments next month in the states' bid to provide families in need with financial aid.

This assistance is intended to help households struggling to make ends meet as a result of joblessness or decreased hours following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Earlier this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state would provide more than $305.5 million in food benefits for 1.5 million Texas households in August.

"It is imperative that every family across our state has access to nutritious food," said Governor Abbott.

"Through the extension of emergency SNAP benefits and the work of HHSC, we are ensuring Texans have the resources they need to stay healthy."

How many states will send extra food stamps in September?

However, Texas is not one of the states who have officially announced that they will provide extra food stamps in September.

The list of the 15 states who have already agreed on providing financial aid to households consists of Alabama, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

There are various states which have yet to make an official announcement, but they are expected to offer SNAP Emergency Allotments to their citizens who have struggled due to the rise in groceries and gas prices over the last few months.

Who Is Eligible For Extra Food Stamps?

Each state has announced their own guidelines, but if you have already received food stamps in the past, who may be able to automatically qualify for the extra financial aid.

The food stamps can be used to purchase any food including fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, breads, cereals, snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages.
