Fix 2: Try other servers
A dedicated server is important for playing DayZ without lags. If your PC meets the recommended system requirements for the game but DayZ still lags, you can try play the game in another server.
It’s recommended that you find a public server and play on it, because the public servers are guarenteed to be dedicated servers.
If DayZ still lags, don’t worry. Try the next fix, below.
Fix 3: Update your drivers
If your graphics drivers or network driver is corrupted or outdated, the game lag issue will occur. If DayZ still lags after you tried Fix 2, it’s time to update your drivers.
Updating the graphics driver can not only enhance the performance of your graphics card, but also avoid many unexpected computer issues in the future. By updating the network driver, your can enhance the network stability on your PC and reduce network latency.
There are two ways to update your drivers: manually and automatically.
Update your drivers manually – You can update your drivers manually by going to the manufacturer’s website, and searching for the latest driver for your device.
Be sure to choose the driver that’s compatible with your exact device model and your version of Windows.Or
Update your drivers automatically – If you don’t have the time, patience or computer skills to update your graphics driver manually, you can, instead, do it automatically with Driver Easy.
You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing. Driver Easy handles it all.
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy and click Scan Now. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.

- Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system. You need the Pro version of Driver Easy to do this, so you’ll be prompted to upgrade.

Alternatively if you’re comfortable manually installing drivers, you can click ‘Update’ next to each device in the free version to automatically download the correct driver. Once it’s downloaded, you can manually install it.)
If you need assistance, please contact Driver Easy’s support team at [email protected].Fix 4: Modify the graphics settings

Performance tweaks in Steam
1. Open Steam and go to LIBRARY. Right-click on DayZ and select Properties. Then click on Set commandline options.
Explanation for the command line we’re going to type:
- -nosplash – removes the Bohemia Interactive splash page.
- -noPause – gets you into the game faster.
- -cpuCount=4 – you should set the value to the number of cores your CPU has.
- -maxMem=8192– you should set the value to the total amount of RAM your system has. For example, 1024 is for 1GB and 4096 for 4GB.
- -exThreads=8
- -malloc=system – allow modern CPUs to allocate more resource
To check the number of cores:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and X at the same time, then select Task Manager.

- In Task Manager, navigate to the Performance tab and select CPU on the left panel. On the right, you can see the number of cores your CPU has.

This command line looks like this:
-nosplash -noPause -cpuCount=4 -maxMem=8192 -exThreads=8 -malloc=systemFix 5: Install the latest DayZ patch
The developers of DayZ release regular game patches to fix bugs. It’s possible that a recent patch has caused this issue, and that a new patch is required to fix it.
If a patch is available, just download and install it to see if it can fix the game lag issue; if there’s no patches available, or if the issue persists after you installed the latest patch, try the next fix, below.
Fix 6: Run a defrag on your hard drive
It’s a good choice to run a defrag on your hard drive if DayZ is not installed on a solid state drive (SSD), or if you just installed a DayZ patch. Here’s how to do it:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and type defragment. Then in the list of search result, click Defragment and Optimize Drivers.

- Select the drive where DayZ is install and click Optimize.

- Click Close after the optimization process completed.
