Amati A Have BE grips on the 1911 and the wood surface is flat and gets slippery when wet. Tried sanding and skateboard tape but it is quite ugly so I'm thinking stippling with this and finishing with oil. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-...tock-making-hand-tools/wood-stippling-tools/wood-stippling-punches-prod396.aspx Has anyone tried it and with what results? Thanks. #1 · Apr 12, 2018 (Edited) Have BE grips on the 1911 and the wood surface is flat and gets slippery when wet. If you practice first, then take a little care it works out very well. Experiment with several types and sizes of stippling punches on some scrap walnut to figure out what works best and to get the feel of how to do it. The technique is to hold the punch firmly with your first two fingers and thumb with the point about 1/4 inch off the wood, and usually with the other two fingers braced on the wood. Rapidly tap the punch with a small hammer as you constantly move the punch around a small area. As the punch is tapped it impacts the wood and "recoils" back off the wood surface. The depth and coarseness of the stippling depends on the punch and how hard you strike it. #5 · Apr 13, 2018 This is inspiring: http://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/match-grips-for-daisy-7x7-part-3-final.html Now I have no excuses.
