He's extremely narcissistic, pragmatic and has an eidetic memory, making him one of the most intelligent members of the group.

Despite not always understanding emotions, Sheldon does have them. His urge to love another person surfaced eventually, and he fell in love with a fellow scientist, Amy Farrah Fowler. It's not often fans see Sheldon showing love or compassion for others, but in later seasons Sheldon showed his deepest affection for Amy.

10 Sheldon Showed Up On Amy's Date With Stuart

When Sheldon found out that Stuart had asked Amy to go on a date with him in The Flaming Spittoon Acquisition, he pretended that it didn't bother him. After the initial shock, he realized that he didn't like Amy being with another guy. So Sheldon tried to make Amy jealous by asking Penny out, which was quickly shut down.

After talking to Penny and admitting his jealousy, Sheldon decided to take their relationship to the next level. He arrived on Amy's date with Stuart and asked her to be his girlfriend, which was a truly romantic gesture. Fighting to keep that special person can only mean one thing, pure love.

When Amy said that Sheldon's work was just theoretical, he took it as an insult, and this comment resulted in them breaking up. Sheldon wouldn't admit that it was a break up, and pretended that everything was fine. Sheldon then decided to adopt 25 cats to fill the empty spot that Amy left in his heart in The Jazzy Substitution - but still didn't admit that he was upset.

Leonard had to call Sheldon's mom, who was famously good at helping Sheldon. When Mary came to town, she managed to get Amy and Sheldon back together in her clever way. Getting 25 cats was clearly a cry for help and proved that Sheldon was truly upset about losing Amy.

8 Sheldon Talks About Amy's Favorite Things

Sheldon was upset that Amy was making him celebrate Christmas against his will, so he decided to punish her by buying her a Christmas present. In The Clean Room Infiltration, Bernadette and Sheldon went to the mall, and looked for the perfect gift for Amy. As Sheldon explained all of Amy's favorite things, fans saw a different side to Sheldon. Describing her personality and loves in such positive detail was very touching.

Bernadette was surprised that Sheldon knew so much about Amy, saying that he really must love her, to which Sheldon agreed. Sheldon was obnoxious and rude sometimes, but he loved his friends and Amy in his special way, even if they didn't know it.

7 Sheldon Made Amy His Screensaver

When Sheldon went to Texas to visit her pregnant sister, the gang had a Christmas party at his apartment. Much to their dismay, they ended up talking about Sheldon the whole evening. Amy pointed out that if it weren't for Sheldon, she wouldn't have met the others, and everyone else wouldn't have met each other.

While Amy was talking about how Sheldon had affected their lives, she felt like Sheldon didn't really care whether she was in his life. Leonard explained that Sheldon must care about Amy more than she realizes, as Sheldon's screensaver was a photo of Amy. It was a subtle way to show Amy he loves her, in a move very unlikely for Sheldon.

6 Sheldon Was Worried About Amy When She Went Off The Grid

In The Isolation Permutation, Bernadette and Penny went shopping for bridesmaid dresses but didn't tell Amy. She wasn't supposed to find out, but unfortunately Howard accidentally shared the secret. Amy thought that the girls were her friends, but they ditched her to go shopping. She got very upset and went off the grid for several hours.

Sheldon tried to contact Amy but she didn't respond to any of his electronic communications. Sheldon was clearly concerned, and sent Leonard to check up on her. Even though Sheldon isn't the best at comforting and companionship, he tried to cheer Amy up and even hugged her.

5 Sheldon Hit Leonard After He Went To A Wedding With Amy

In The Pulled Groin Extrapolation episode of The Big Bang Theory, Amy and Leonard went to a wedding because Sheldon refused to accompany her. At first, Sheldon didn't seem to care about this. But when Leonard came back with a pulled groin and started talking about how delightful Amy was, Sheldon got very angry.

He karate-chopped Leonard, and said "she is not for you! Not for you!" Even when he was angry, Sheldon always made fans laugh. Through this jealousy, he proved how much he loves Amy.

4 Sheldon Took Care Of Amy When She Was Sick

Sheldon frequently drafted contracts, and encouraged the others to sign them. In The Fish Guts Displacement, Amy got sick. Based on a clause Sheldon had written in their Relationship Agreement, he was obligated to nurse Amy back to health. Fans know that Sheldon Cooper is selfish. Though he may have been only honoring The Relationship Agreement - his girlfriend needed his help, and he decided to step up to prove how important Amy's well-being was to him.

3 Sheldon Tried To Make Amends After Disregarding Amy's Big News

Sheldon's date nights with Amy were always full of exciting moments in The Big Bang. One of their date nights turned into a dismal failure when Sheldon neglected Amy's big news. In The Shiny Trinket Maneuver, Amy had just found out her paper was being published in Neuron. Sheldon didn't even notice that Amy was angry until Penny pointed it out.

Sheldon was terrified of physical contact, the sheer thought made him very uncomfortable. But after years of being in a loving relationship and going through a heartbreaking breakup, Sheldon realized that he was ready for the next step. Sheldon wanted to show Amy how much he loved her, and suggested he have his first-ever physical experience with Amy on her birthday. As a huge step for Sheldon, it proved he loved Amy.
