SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "True Colors," the latest episode of The Flash.
Barry Allen is a free man. In "True Colors," the latest episode of The Flash, his appeal was approved thanks to Ralph Dibney and his new powers. Using his ability to shapeshift, Dibney impersonated Clifford DeVoe in court, causing the judge to overturn Barry's sentence.
At the start of the episode, Dibney hosted an unwanted visitor in his office. Later, when he described his guest to Team Flash, he subconsciously began to shapeshift into the man. He used this ability to try and throw off Amunet's deal with Warden Wolfe, but failed when his disguise began to fall apart. Discouraged, he decided to abandon this power altogether, until a pep talk from Killer Frost inspired him to try again.

The episode wound down with Barry's appeal trial. It appeared to go poorly for Cecile and Iris, until Dibney pulled through and showed up as DeVoe. As DeVoe, Dibney explained that he woke up stabbed and overheard that he was a plant used to frame Barry for a crime he didn't commit. With ample evidence that Barry was innocent, the judge accepted the appeal and freed Barry from his prison sentence.
This threw a genuine curve ball at DeVoe's plans. Marlize DeVoe, aka the Mechanic, appeared to be sincerely shocked at the sight of her husband's former body. However, the Thinker didn't seem particularly put out by this turn of events, despite the Mechanic's frustration. He appears to be as optimistic as ever about his plans for the Enlightenment, whatever that may be.

Barry's appeal seems to conclude the "Trial of Flash" storyline, seeing as he is no longer in prison for a murder he did not commit. However, Season 4 may yet borrow elements from the well known comic book story, especially since the show's Mystery Girl -- who is speculated to be Barry and Iris' future daughter or granddaughter -- is still in play on the television series.
Airing Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, with guest appearances from Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West and Hartley Sawyer as the Elongated Man.
