The Joker is perhaps the Dark Knight's greatest foe, other than being a complete maniac. The Joker is a sadistic wit, who is famous for his mirthless bone-chilling laugh and his forever-lasting evil grin. He is also known to have an extremely high level of intelligence, which he uses to construct new ways to kill Batman. The Joker is constantly escaping Arkham Asylum and bringing misery to Gotham city.

In a way, he is completely obsessed with Batman. He seems to think that he is the only one who has the right to kill Batman because he hates him so much. Not only that, the Joker blames Batman for causing him to fall into a vat of chemicals, and becoming insane. This is not true, however. The Joker was a bad guy long before he fell into the toxic waste. All the chemicals did was continue to warp his already warped mind.

He also seems to think that every crime, infliction of pain, and murder he commits is a joke to mock Batman. Though he does not have any super powers of any kind, his trademarks are razor-sharp playing cards, laughing gas, and another chemical that gives his victims the same bizarre smile as his own.
