The NES Classic Mini Is Back And You Can Pre-order It Right Now

The NES Classic Mini is back in stock on Nintendo’s online store, ahead of the retro console’s re-release next month.

The sought-after console will return to shelves on June 29, but Nintendo has now opened up pre-orders. You can also pre-order from other retailers in the UK.

Nintendo is keeping the price the same at £49.99 and has the same 30-games pre-installed on the console. The company is limiting pre-orders to one per person and is providing free delivery.

Whether the machine will be easier to come by the second time around, or whether demand will be as high, remains to be seen. Around Christmas of 2016, eBay sellers were attempting to shift the console for more than 300% of the RRP, but such a surge on the secondary market seems unlikely this time around.

Nintendo originally discontinued the console in April 2017, ahead of the launch of the launch of the SNES Classic, but now it’s back.

In our review back in December 2016, we awarded the machine a 7/10 score, praising the bargain price and adorable form factor. It was marked down somewhat due to the inability to expand the gaming library and the short controller cable.

In his review, Brett Phipps rued the finishing touches that would have made the console the perfect redo.

He wrote: “It seems that in making the Classic Mini we also get Classic Nintendo: so close to perfection but a few bizarre design choices leave us pondering what could have been had the company pushed the budget just a touch further. I’d have paid double the asking price if it gave us a little extra length, or even the length of the original NES controller’s cable.”

The titles pre-installed are: Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest™, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Final Fantasy, Galaga, Ghosts ‘N Goblins, Gradius, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Pac-Man, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, StarTropics, Super C, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Tecmo Bowl, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
