What happened in the last episode of The Walking Dead?

The last episode of The Walking Dead - season eight, episode eight - was broadcast late last year on December 10, marking the midseason finale and the beginning of a hiatus.

The episode, titles How It’s Gotta Be was a devastating watch, as the All Out War raged on between the Saviors and the survivors in Alexandria. 

Eugene (played by Josh McDermitt) had a plan which allowed the Saviors to escape.

Separately, the Saviors, led by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) managed to stop the Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom forces.

The Scavengers abandoned Rick (Andrew Lincoln), which led him to return to Alexandria.

Ezekiel (Khary Payton) made sure that the Kingdom residents were able to escape before he locked himself in the community with the Saviors.

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attacked Alexandria, but Carl (Chandler Riggs) came up with a plan which allowed the Alexandria residents escape into the sewers.

This exposed Dwight (Austin Amelio) as a traitor to the Saviors.

When did Carl get bitten in The Walking Dead?

Carl appears to have been bitten after he finds Siddiq and recruits him to go to Alexandria in episode six, The King, the Widow, and Rick.

The two are talking through the forest when they happen upon a group of Walkers devouring a horse.

The two attempt to fight them off but Carl becomes overwhelmed at one point.

Siddiq intervenes and Carl finally manages to shoot the Walkers off him.

He seems shocked after the tussle, which would be a normal reaction, but fans are speculating if he is in shock at just having been bitten. 

While we don’t specifically see Carl being bitten but it is assumed that it happened during the struggle when he was pinned to the ground by two Walkers at once. 

The young son of lead character Rick Grimes, carl has been an integral part of the series since the very first episode.

Fans have become really attached to the brave young survivor and are as equally attached to the touching relationship he has with his father.

Carl’s death on the show is sure to be a devastating blow for Rick that could completely alter the course of the season.

The last scene of the episode shows Carl showing his father the bite. 

Fans were left devastated at the cliff hanger which will be addressed in the next episode, Honor.

Is Carl dead in The Walking Dead?

Carl isn’t dead yet but the fallout from the bite is expected to be explored in tonight's episode. 

Many viewers are speculating that Carl was bitten by a Whisperer, not a Walker. 

In the comic books, Whisperers disguise themselves as Walkers to move undetected. 

However, Chandler Riggs himself has stated that his character is definitely going to die.

DOES NEGAN DIE IN THE WALKING DEAD COMICS?

“There's no way he can get back from that. His story is definitely coming to an end,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. 

So it remains to be seen if he will die but things are not looking good. 

The Walking Dead continues on Monday, February 26 on FOX UK.
