When Did Carl Get Bitten In The Walking Dead? | Metro News

The Walking Dead’s mid-season finale ended with a shock blow as Carl Grimes was revealed to be bitten, meaning the character’s death is imminent.
It’s a shock not just because actor Chandler Riggs’ exit wasn’t expected, but also because the twist strays away from Robert Kirkman’s source material.
The episode saw Carl reveal a bite from a Walker at the end, meaning he can either die and return as a Walker himself, or be shot dead before it gets to that stage, which is most likely.
But when was Carl bitten?
In the episode, titled How It’s Gotta Be, Carl successfully saves the residents of Alexandria from Negan’s assault by serving himself as a distraction, allowing the likes of Michonne, Rosita and Tara to seek refuge underground.
Carl also managed to escape unscathed from Negan’s attack, but there was a reason for his willingness to be a self-sacrifice – having been bitten by a walker.
His bite mark is revealed to Rick and Michonne in the show’s heartbreaking closing moments, and now actor Chandler Riggs has confirmed there won’t be no last chance escape from his fate.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Chandler said: ‘Yes, Carl is going to die. There’s no way he can get back from that. His story is definitely coming to an end.’
The moment in question didn’t actually happen during the finale episode.
Instead, it happened a few episodes earlier when Carl was fighting the Walkers with his new pal Siddiq, as revealed by showrunner Scott Gimple.
The scene doesn’t show the bite happen but the before and after is quite clear, with Carl’s face staring on in shock and realisation after the lethal attack.

His death will pan out in the next episode of season eight to air next year, with the actor teasing how he’s going to go down teaching his father some valuable lessons.
‘Episode 809 is really Carl trying to teach Rick as much as he can about what he’s learned and trying to convince Rick to not kill every single Savior because there’s still good people out there,’ Chandler added.
‘The Alexandrians, the Hilltop and the Kingdom – all those people probably see him as a villain like the Saviors. There’s some humanitarian aspects that Carl is going to try and teach Rick in his final moments.’

Carl’s death also debunks ideas the Old Man Rick scene was a flash-forward, so could that now potentially allude to Rick biting the bullet with a final hallucination?
Speaking about the possibility of Andrew Lincoln leaving the show, Chandler added: ‘That is possible, too.
‘I haven’t talked to him much about it but I know that he has a family that he leaves every year to come to Georgia for months and months to film The Walking Dead, leaving his kids back home in England. I know he’s probably getting pretty tired.’
Is The Walking Dead about to hit a major reset button by the end of season eight? We’ll have to see when the show returns next year.
The Walking Dead airs in the UK on Fox on Mondays 9pm.
