Tokyo Revengers: 10 Times Takemichi Just Made Things Worse

Takemichi Hanagaki has a knack for making rash decisions at the most inopportune times. Whether it's speaking out of turn or acting on impulse, the Tokyo Revengers protagonist often lands himself and others in hot water. Even with his ability to leap through time, Takemichi manages to squander various opportunities to make things better for himself and the people he cares about.

Despite his tenacity and determination, Takemichi's poor decision-making means he's rarely ever useful to the cause or person he's fighting for. As a result, Takemichi has made an already bad situation worse on many occasions.

10 Takemichi Is A Glutton For Punishment

After taking a vicious beating from Kiyomasa and his crew, Takemichi quickly makes things worse for himself when he tells Kiyomasa that he would like to meet the gang's leaders. Takemichi had very little knowledge of the Tokyo Manji Gang or its leaders, Sano or Kisaki, and it would have been best for him to just leave after being beaten. In response to Takemichi's unexpected prying, Kiyomasa takes a bat to him and beats him senseless as the rest of his crew look on concerned their leader might kill him.

9 Takemichi Makes Things Worse For Akkun

Takemichi inadvertently stops Akkun from going to prison in the original timeline when he stands up to Kiyomasa in the past to stop Takuya from participating in Kiyomasa's fighting ring. Takemichi toughs it out and takes a brutal beating, which stops Akkun from stabbing Kiyomasa.

Akkun later thanks Takemichi for his efforts, but when the latter returns to the present and is reunited with his childhood friend, he discovers that Akkun is now in the upper echelons of Toman. Unhappy with his current position and having to do Tetta Kisaki's bidding, Akkun commits suicide right in front of a stunned Takemichi.

8 Takemichi Infuriates Pah At A Toman Meeting

With the knowledge that Toman's impending conflict with Moebius will eventually lead to Toman's downfall, Takemichi interrupts a meeting Mikey is holding with Draken, Pah, and Peh to implore Toman's leader to call off the upcoming battle.

Already infuriated by what Moebius did to his friend, Pah attacks Takemichi. Rather than successfully becoming the voice of reason, Takemichi's outburst gives rise to friction between Mikey and Toman's vice president when Draken questions his leader's decision regarding Moebius. This ultimately undermined his authority.

7 Takemichi Rests On His Laurels When Mikey & Draken Reconcile

After helping Mikey and Draken reconcile after a short-lived dispute, Takemichi believes he's successfully halted Toman's internal conflict and stopped a future where Draken dies. Thinking his work is done, Takemichi goes on a double date with Hinata, Draken, and Emma on the day Draken was supposed to die, only to discover later that the internal conflict in Toman still isn't resolved. Having curbed his concerns far too quickly and abandoned Draken for some alone time with Hinata, Takemichi races to the parking lot where he expects Draken to meet his end.

6 Takemichi Lacks Urgency When Draken Is Stabbed

After discovering that Kiyomasa stabbed Draken, Takemichi sits idly by instead of hastily acting to save his friend's life. He can only stare at Draken and call his name. Even though Draken is badly injured, Takemichi wastes valuable time by failing to take initiative. Takemichi is only able to take action after hearing Mikey call on him to do something. Finally, Takemichi carries Draken to a safe place where he can call an ambulance. For someone so determined to save his friend, Takemichi takes too long to help his fallen comrade.

5 Takemichi's Time Leaps Adversely Affect Akkun

At Hinata's funeral, Takemichi discovers that Akkun is married with a child in the current timeline. Naoto tells Takemichi that he believes Akkun had no choice but to follow orders to kill Takemichi and Hinata because his family was likely taken hostage. On this occasion, instead of committing suicide to escape Tetta's grasp, Akkun follows the order to kill his childhood friend and Hinata in a desperate attempt to save his family.

Unfortunately for Hinata, nothing has changed. Akkun is once again adversely impacted by Takemichi's time leap and Takemichi is forced to watch both the love of his life and his friend die right before his eyes.

4 Takemichi Punches Kisaki At The Ceremony

When Mikey appoints Kisaki as the new Third Division Captain, Takemichi becomes visibly upset because he knows what Kisaki will do in the future. Takemichi attacks Kisaki, effectively ruining the ceremony and embarrassing Toman's leader, Mikey. Several of Toman's leading members see Takemichi's actions as a sign of disrespect.

Only a surprise appearance from Baji stops Takemichi from dealing with far more severe consequences for his actions. Not long after, Takemichi makes a deal with Mikey to bring Baji back to Toman and have Kisaki removed. However, Mikey tells him that if he fails, he will kill him.

3 Takemichi Is The Reason Kazutora Kills Baji

When Toman and Valhalla finally collide, Takemichi is determined to do everything he can to stop Kazutora from killing Baji. As Baji prepares to take out Kisaki, Chifuyu begs him not to, believing it'll cause further friction between Baji and Mikey since he'd be betraying Toman's leader.

In an attempt to protect Baji, Takemichi wraps his arms tightly around his waist to stop him from reaching Kisaki. This gives Kazutora the opening he needs to stab Baji in the back. In his effort to help Baji, regrettably, Takemichi ends up being the reason he is stabbed.

2 Takemichi Watches Mikey Beat Kazutora

When Baji dies during the Bloody Halloween battle between Toman and Valhalla, Takemichi is already aware that Mikey murdering Kazutora is what leads to the tragic future he's trying to prevent. But when Mikey begins pummelling Kazutora for stabbing Baji, Takemichi stands by and watches. He does nothing to stop Mikey from beating Kazutora to death.

Despite what he knows, Takemichi wastes valuable time once again thinking about the future he doesn't want to occur instead of doing something. Baji interrupts and stops Mikey, but Mikey begins hitting Kazutora again after Baji dies, only then does Takemichi finally step in and stop him.

1 Takemichi Makes Things Worse In The Present After The Bloody Halloween Conflict

After being appointed First Division Captain during a Toman ceremony, Takemichi returns to the present feeling he still might be able to change things for the better. Unfortunately, Takemichi quickly learns that in this new timeline, Mikey has disappeared, Draken has been executed, and, worst of all, Tetta Kisaki has risen to the top of Toman. Shortly after, Takemichi is shot in the leg and Kisaki murders Chifuyu for being a traitor. Despite all his efforts, Takemichi has made things a whole lot worse by the end of Tokyo Revengers' first season.
