The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a nationally recognized trauma nursing certification developed by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). TNCC provides nurses with a standardized, evidence-based approach to trauma assessment and management through hands-on skills stations and scenario-based learning.

Project Heartbeat offers in-person TNCC certification courses exclusively at our Oakland campus, serving nurses and healthcare professionals throughout the Bay Area.

TNCC Certification: Full Course or Challenger

In-Person TNCC Course

  • Initial TNCC certification for registered nurses and qualified healthcare professionals
  • Includes instructor-led classroom sessions, skills stations, and written exam
  • TNCC Provider Verification Card issued upon successful completion
  • Verification valid for 4 years

TNCC Renewal

In-Person TNCC Renewal Course

  • 1-day renewal course for experienced TNCC providers
  • Skills testing and written exam
  • Required pre-course online modules

About TNCC Certification

TNCC was developed to establish a standardized body of trauma nursing knowledge and to improve outcomes for trauma patients. The course emphasizes rapid assessment, critical thinking, prioritization of care, and effective team communication in high-acuity trauma situations.

All TNCC courses follow ENA guidelines and incorporate required pre-course learning, instructor-led discussion, and hands-on skills validation.

Who Should Take TNCC?

TNCC is designed for:

  • Registered Nurses (RN)
  • Emergency and trauma nurses
  • Nurses working in emergency departments, trauma units, or critical care settings
  • Qualified healthcare professionals involved in trauma patient care (non-RN track where applicable)

First-time participants should enroll in the TNCC Full / Initial Course. Only providers with a current TNCC certification are eligible for Renewal.

What the TNCC Course Covers

The TNCC curriculum includes:

  • The Trauma Nursing Process
  • Primary and secondary trauma assessment
  • Rapid identification of life-threatening injuries
  • Clinical decision-making and prioritization
  • Scenario-based skills stations
  • Team-based trauma care principles

Verification & Certification Validity

Upon successful completion of a TNCC course:

  • Participants receive a TNCC Provider Verification Card
  • Verification is valid for four (4) years
  • Contact hours are awarded in accordance with ENA standards
