What Age Was David When He Became King? - EBible

Mini Pam Johnson Supporter David was most likely 20 years old when the prophet Samuel anointed him as King of Israel. Remember that Israel already had a kIng, Saul, who was the first one. David was on the run from Saul for 10 years before Saul was killed in battle with his son, Jonathan, who was a tremendous friend and close confidant to David. We know from the scriptures that David ruled for 40 years before dying at the age of 70 and that for 10 years he was on the run with a ragtag army and that he reigned from Jerusalem for 30 years before dying. But David went into the service of Saul as a harpist after being anointed and we don't know how long that lasted before Saul began trying to kill him. David could have been anywhere between 19 and 25 years of age when Samuel anointed him king assuming he was in Saul's service for 5 to 7 years before fleeing and gathering his own forces.
