18 Oct, 2017 @ 11:43pm Assuming she told her to kill herself, since at one point Monika basically admits to having a hand in her suicide, and talks about Sayori's second thoughts mid-hanging. Monika tells you about how she messed up in hanging herself (the way you're ~supposed~ to do it, your neck will snap, you won't choke, leading to a largely painless & quick death), however Monika says as she was being asphyxiated, she clawed at the rope, attempting to get herself down. It's really depressing.

19 Oct, 2017 @ 3:48am It was pretty obvious to me that Monika was a bad influence but I didn't think she would intentionally push Sayori to suicide. #4

Viscera View Profile View Posts 19 Oct, 2017 @ 7:58pm I don't think that Monika intentionally pushed Sayori to suicide. The way I understood it, she just tried to make the other girls unappealing, their suicide (and Yuri's obsession that railroads the player towards her) is an unintended side effect. Of course, since it plays into her hands, she's rather unconcerned about it.I also don't think that Monika only started tampering with the code with Sayori's suicide. The reason the game starts to break there is that the girls aren't intended to ever die and the game goes haywire when they do. It's not even directly her death that leads to it (and Monika implies that she's hanging quite a while that morning), but the discovery of her body by the player. On that note, while freaky, the glitches are never too bad until Yuri's suicide, at which the game really doesn't know what to do and prints loads of garbage, the history glitches out horribly and the game stays there over several days with no progression or any change. That adds to the theory that the death of the girls (or rather witness of them) is a big cause of the game breaking. And Monika wasn't able to fix these issues, just as she wasn't able to change the game to prevent the others from getting closer to the player. And the reason why there weren't any issues prior to the discovery of Sayori's body is that Monika's changes weren't too heavy yet, so the game wouldn't break on its own, and nothing unusual happened that could trigger glitches. But I'm sure she still did changes beside talking with Sayori. #8

19 Oct, 2017 @ 8:03pm Two words:Hxppy Thxughts.Monika put this in the game files to push Sayori over the edge. Her editing was minimal at first, but she did directly do some Act 1 editing, since Sayori was the biggest obstacle. Upon realizing she COULD manipulate things, I think this is when she went overboard with Act 2. #9

29 Oct, 2017 @ 6:47pm Hm, I'd say the requirement for calling Monika onbjectively "evil" would be to exactly know what her perception looked like. I mean if youd realize youre trapped within a game and you only perceive the other characters as files, wouldnt you try to do anything to escape your prison? She emphasizes emphatically that she has only driven the others into madness to make them look as disgustingly as possible, so she can get closer to reality - because the game wouldnt give her a chance anyway. I mean she wants to become part of "the players reality" and therefore doesnt perceive herself as part of the games "pseudoreality" until she realizes that, in the end, there is no way to break the 4th wall. Sadly there isnt a clear answer in this regard. Therefore I wouldnt necessarily call her evil. I'd say until theres evidence for her being a real psycopath, Id handle her like someone killing people in a videogame who then realizes he just controlled a drone irl.But I think everyone made some valid points, guess its a matter of preferences ;) Last edited by Laeradr; 29 Oct, 2017 @ 6:49pm #12

29 Oct, 2017 @ 9:21pm Reading "Get Out of My Head" (Sayori's final poem) left me with the impression that among other things, Monika told her that you would be better off without a depressed friend/girlfriend like her dragging her down all the time--that if Sayori really loved you, she'd get out of your life forever. It's not directly stated, but I feel it's strongly implied. #14

Sayori also says nothing about it.Whatever it was, we can be certain that Monika is filling Sayori's mind with awful things, which is very easy to do with someone suffering from severe depression. Monika took advantage of Sayori at her most vulnerable.]that part bothered me. (this is my first time playing a game like this) im kinda surprised the main character didnt say anything, this immediatly raised a red flag for me. Last edited by toad; 18 Oct, 2017 @ 11:40pm #2

Originally posted by Flustered:@spicy burritoI feel this is intentional. Think about it: Your standard protagonist is some bumbling idiot trying to impress a single girl out of a selection, and they usually go to any means to accomplish this.Generally speaking, to my knowledge, they're not equipped to deal with depression or suicide. Hell, he forgot about Sayori's conversation about depression the very next day and, well, 'left her hanging'.Monika mentions that the protagonist could have saved Sayori, and I believe this is a reference to the 'good' ending. Or she's just mocking you due to you not being able to directly control the protagonist. Either one is very likely.Although, one question does remain with me: What exactly did Monika change in the game prior to Sayori's suicide? It doesn't seem like she's editing much until Sayori is already dead, when the script starts falling apart and Monika resorts to just deleting Sayori...Which only made things worse.I think it's safe to say Sayori had her depression the whole game: Even at the start the surefire signs are there, so what exactly was Monika changing? If I don't miss understood, Monika admited that he change the script to make the Depression of Sayori more critical, same with the psycological problems of Yuri. She wants to make the player only past time and declare to her, even if that means kill the other characters. #6
Originally posted by Osgiliath:I'd say until Sayoris suicide, Monika didnt really interfere with the game as a "game". She just talked to Sayori (probably about some nihilistic stuff since thats a really bad topic to talk about with ppl suffering from depressions) and - after she got her result - Monika realised how shes actually able to "change" the outcome of the game, even though shes not meant to play a major-role. From there on shes in some kind of learning process about how to change the script, which obviously shows in arc2. #7Originally posted by Flustered:@spicy burritoI feel this is intentional.
