The Auto Club Speedway, formerly known as the California Speedway is located about 50 miles east of Los Angeles. The track is s a two-mile, low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway that has hosted NASCAR racing annually since 1997. It's one of the fastest in the circuit by the way, so many high profile racers have met their match here.

Auto Club Speedway's asphalt is the oldest on the Cup Series circuit, last repaved ahead of its 1997 race. Due to pandemic restrictions, the NASCAR Cup Series had to take a break last year from this track, so excitement to return to de Auto Club Speedway is at a rise.

Inside the Auto Club Speedway

One thing we need to understand is that the track is one thing, but the building itself is a whole different thing. It's made of 230,000 concrete blocks on an area of 739,009 square feet. It's got 5 entrances and 5 exits with more than 25 routes to major freeways. Over 60 bathrooms to accommodate the thousands of spectators and over 600 TV monitors, 175 speakers and amplifiers plus many, many accomodations.

Construction of the Auto Club Speedway began in 1995 on the site of the former Kaiser Steel Mill and was completed in late 1996. The speedway has a grandstand capacity of 68,000 and 28 skyboxes and a total capacity of 122,000. In 2006, a fan zone was added behind the main grandstand. Lights were added to the speedway in 2004 with the addition of a second annual NASCAR weekend. Since 2011, the track has hosted only one NASCAR weekend.
