As I thought about removing or replacing my SR5 emblems today I thought, "what the heck does SR5 stand for anyway?" I know it's a mid-level option package, but is it an acronym? Is it just some code like BMW or Infiniti has decided to use recently for no apparent reason? Anybody have some insight? __________________ 2016 SR5 4WD. BFG KO2 275/70R17. It meant Sport in the old days... but those days are long gone, now you have "cheapo model, cheap model we charge you extra for, and "luxury" model we charge you for but don't provide for." Hope that clears things up. __________________ http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-ge...pav-build.html | | Reply With Quote | | BlackWorksInc | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by BlackWorksInc | | BlackWorksInc | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by BlackWorksInc | 12-08-2014, 09:34 AM | #5 | | fourwd1 Moderator | Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: the Socialist State of Maryland Posts: 11,789 Real Name: I'm Gumby, damn it | | fourwd1 Moderator Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: the Socialist State of Maryland Posts: 11,789 Real Name: I'm Gumby, damn it | The SR5 does stand for Sport Rally 5spd, and was introduced long before the Tacoma, so ignore that ridiculous explanation in that Taco World thread referenced above. SR5 was introduced as an upgraded trim level over the base DX/DLX model. One of the upgrades was from the then standard 4 spd to a 5 spd. __________________ - the Internet - the mother-ship of people who don't know much and aren't afraid to go public '84 4Runner - ARBed 5.29s F&R, 4.7 & 2.28 t-cases, 2" drive train lift, BudBuilt x-member/skid, 30 spl Longs '83 Toy P/U - Buick 231 V6, Holley 4 bbl, Weiand intake, Downey headers, TH350 w/700R4 low gearset, '89 4Runner SR5 - stock | | Reply With Quote | | fourwd1 | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by fourwd1 | | fourwd1 | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by fourwd1 | 12-08-2014, 09:46 AM | #6 | | KidVermicious Elite Member | Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: Utard Posts: 12,983 Real Name: Kevin | | KidVermicious Elite Member Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: Utard Posts: 12,983 Real Name: Kevin | ^ Yup. First appeared on the Celica, if I remember correctly. The first 4Runners had two trim levels, the base trim and the SR5, and originally it was only five speeds that got the SR5 badges, ALL the automatics were base trim. At some point that changed, not sure exactly when but you can find late model second gen SR5s with automatic transmissions. The third gen's Sport was an option package add-on to the SR5 trim level, and then they added the Limited trim level over the SR5. At some point after that they deleted the now-unnamed base trim and that left the SR5 badge on the bottom of the stack. __________________ . 'My needle always settles between west and southwest. EDIT: Unless you have a V6 03-04 SR5, it still has a 4 speed.. __________________ 2004 SR5 V8 4WD White - Full LED Swap - Pioneer BT Stereo - Lite Racing UCAs - Toytec Bilstein 5100 Front 3" Superflex Rear 2"- Spidertrax 1.5" - 255/75r17 Destination AT - SS Brake Lines - Prothane Bushings - SE Brake Upgrade - Full Synthetic 1994 SR5 V6 4WD Black - Bilstein HDs - OME 900 - 31" Destination AT Last edited by Dylan; 12-08-2014 at 12:19 PM. | | Reply With Quote | | Dylan | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by Dylan | | Dylan | | View Public Profile | | Find More Posts by Dylan | 12-08-2014, 12:19 PM | #10 | | swapmeet Member | Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: N.
