Amazon has opened its first general store in the UK, at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent.

The Amazon 4-star store is the first of its kind outside the United States, and will sell about 2,000 of the online retailer’s top-rated and best-selling products.

It isn’t yet clear whether or not Amazon intends to open more 4-star stores in the UK. The Bluewater shop opened at 10am today (October 6th).

What is Amazon 4-star?

Amazon 4-star is a physical retail store selling items which have all been rated higher than four stars by its customers.

The products available at the Amazon 4-star outlet at Bluewater are set to include electronic devices, games, toys, books and homeware.

In addition, there’s a ‘Most Wished For’ section, featuring the products most commonly added to Amazon customers’ wish lists.

The selection of products on offer at the Amazon 4-star store will change periodically in response to customer feedback and new releases, Amazon says.

How many Amazon 4-star stores are there?

There are already over 30 Amazon 4-star outlets in the US - but the Bluewater store is the online retailer’s first foray into the international market with the 4-star concept.

Already, there’s speculation about whether there might be more 4-star stores in the offing. Amazon remains tight-lipped, however, and hasn’t publicly confirmed its plans for the future.

Does Amazon 4-star have cashiers?

Unlike its Amazon Go chain of convenience stores, Amazon 4-star does have cashiers on hand for when customers want to complete a purchase.

Shoppers can pay by swiping their card at the counter or simply by using the Amazon app on their smartphone.
