ErockSRT4 E I ask because if I dyno at 360whp what is the standard HP? I ask because I know HP is higher than true whp so if a sti has stock 280hp does that mean it has like 245 whp or how are they related #1 · Jul 14, 2010 I ask because if I dyno at 360whp what is the standard HP? The WHP is the HP the motor makes after you factor in drivetrain loss. So if you make 100 HP at the crank and have 10% drivetrain loss, you'd make 90 hp at the wheels. A dyno will read WHP. If you search around I believe FWD cars are supposed to have 12-15% drivetrain loss, but I could be way incredibly off. If you do the calculation 360 * 1.12 = 403.2 HP #3 · Jul 15, 2010 Like the above said, whp is the power you actually see at the wheels. If you look at factory horsepower ratings, those are always crank hp, and are not what actually gets to the wheels. Anymore though a lot of cars, ours included, are underrated at the crank and end up making almost as much as their factory rating at the wheels. #4 · Jul 15, 2010 FWD is typically 10-15%. RWD is typically 18-25%. AWD is typically 20-30%. Also depends on the type of dyno. Mustang Dynos read fairly lower. Automatic (torque converter) transmissions usually sap up more power than conventional manual transmissions. #7 · Jul 15, 2010 +1, those loss numbers seem spot on IMO. An automatic will ALWAYS eat up more power than an equivalent manual transmission. It takes energy to move the gears into 'gear'. In a manual the power is generated by our body. 0 Reply #5 · Jul 15, 2010 ^^^what he said, same goes for a loaded dynojet, reads kinda like a mustang dyno #6 · Jul 15, 2010 i agree ^ #8 · Jul 23, 2010 Great thread! Im new to the car modification game and this helps to understand #9 · Jul 23, 2010 just do get into people telling you a dyno jet is better. Insert Quotes Post Reply
