Yugi's Dark Magician would totally be HHH. He keeps getting put over despite being one of the, from a purely stats vs. level cost standpoint, worst 2 sacrifice monster cards in the game. Only 2500 attack points?! Summoned Skull gets you that much and he only takes one sacrifice!Yes later on they added a SHITLOAD of cards based around Dark Magician to make his ass worth something, but early on, before Dark Magician Girl et al? He was terrible. Really only Joey's Red Eyes was probably a worse 2 sacrifice card, and his Red Eyes did go over a lot of other monsters, but against the main eventers like Dark Magician and Blue Eyes he would job all the time. See, I got off at like 5:30 AM. I had just enough time to get home, get myself "situated" and indulge in an episode. If you want to throw logic at that show, you'll never stop finding more questions to ask. Some of my favorite recurring themes:-Seto Kaiba is a terrible brother. He heads this big dog corporation, has unlimited resources and yet Mokuba gets ganked like every other week it seems like. Hire some security, brah. Quit thinking about Yugi and GD battlecards all the damn time. -I used to mark for the Kuriboh. Much like the Dark Magician, it was a seemingly jobber card (Dunno. I'm not a player) that found it's way into every episode. It got a good deal more screentime than Joey, I'll bet. -Them trying to put over playing for the right reasons/friendship/whatever. A fine enough message, sure, but it was so hamfisted. I'm aware that I was damn near twenty and this show was designed for children, but c'mon guys. I wasn't that dumb and I doubt these kids are either. Though I suppose it's not infinitely different from "knowing being half of the battle." | |

Themes like friendship and such were in the Japanese anime and the manga, but they weren't shoved in your face as much. A lot of the characters were more exaggerated, too. Japanese Kaiba wasn't half the dick (at least, not after the Death-T arc, where he was just evil) as the English incarnation was. | | Credit to DM91 | |
