Want to wire up new electric stove.Does it matter if we use a 3 or 4 wire plug?We have a 3 wire plug now that we purchased and was later told that we were suppose to use 8/3wire.We need a 4 wire plug for this don't we???? chandler Banned. Rule And/Or Policy Violation Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: USA Posts: 36,606 Upvotes: 0 Received 14 Upvotes on 13 Posts Yep. Modern code calls for a 4 wire set up, and generally 8/3 with ground is used for this application. If the stove has a 3 wire plug, replace the pigtail with a 4 wire and run 4 wire cable to a new 4 wire receptacle. Upvote chandler View Public Profile Visit chandler's homepage! - Electrical - AC & DC Question about kitchen fixture A antmantbone on Mar 22, 2010 Hey guys, been learning a lot from the posts around here and finally had a reason to ask a question. I have a "track" light fixture that I installed in my kitchen. It's from IKEA and I don't think they sell it anymore. I keep burning out bulbs. We're talking brand new bulbs burning out in 2 weeks. We have matched up the voltage and wattage on the originals, but this keeps happening. The previous fixture had two fluorescent bulbs that lasted years - I don't think I ever replaced them. I took the fixture down today to take a look at the wiring and the ground wire may have been a little loose. Could this cause this issue? Could it just be because it is a poorly made fixture from IKEA? What things should I look for. I have a good basic understanding of electrical theory, and can troubleshoot electrical problems in cars - also have a multimeter. Thanks in advance.Read More
- Electrical - AC & DC Switch wiring question B benno on Mar 24, 2010 I'd like to remove a single-pole light switch from a 3 gang metal box and replace it with a timer switch. The new timer has 4 wires: 2 black, a yellow, and a green ground wire. However, the switch I'm replacing (which is fairly new itself) only has 2 black wires attached. One of the wires is connected to another single-pole switch next to it. None of the switches in the box appear to have ground wires going directly to them. However, inside the box I see copper ground wires capped together, and some copper ground wires screwed to the metal gang box. The cables coming into the box are 12-2 NM cables. So my questions are: 1) Any idea what configuration would have all three single switches connected via black wires, with no ground directly to the switches? 2) Since the current setup has no ground wire going directly to the switch, does it mean I should simply cap the green ground wire of the new timer switch (i.e., is it extraneous), or should I connect it to the other grounds?
