The Japanese doesn't have L in their alphabet but they use katakana to say/refer to foreign words/names/sounds. Monkey D. Luffy is called Luffy after all, not Monkey D. I'm talking about the original Japanese manga. Go look at a page where they show his bounty poster, it should say Zoro even in whatever translation you're reading unless they edited it

I remember reading one of the newer chapters at the time, around Doflamingo fight, and the translator wrote it out as Zorro. I'm also pretty sure people went back and re translated starting at the early chapters and working their way up. They even added more pirate friendly terms and poop.
