Zac Efron has lived most of his life in the United States. The 34-year-old was born and raised in the state of California. While he has grown up to become one of the biggest movie stars in the world, neither of his parents worked in showbiz, despite living so close to the heart of Hollywood.

Efron started acting and singing while he was still in Arroyo Grande High School in the early 2000s. It was his drama teacher at the institution who connected him to an agent, and his professional career kicked off.

Having been in the public eye through the years, Efron has gone through multiple transformations - from a young high school star, to one of the most adored sex symbols in his industry. As he grows older, however, he appears to finally be phasing out of that period of being objectified.

Thanks to his work over the last two decades or so, Efron has managed to amass a net worth of about $25 million. About $6 million of that was attributable to the mansion that he lived in for a while in Los Feliz, Los Angeles. He has since sold that piece of real estate, and instead bought land in Australia. It is rumored that he wants to permanently relocate to the country.

Zac Efron Sold His Los Angeles Home Below Its Market Value

Zac Efron has been moving around the world quite a bit in the last few years, for leisure as much as work. In his 2020 documentary Down to Earth on Netflix, he actually got to visit various parts of the globe, as he explores themes of travel, life experience, nature, green energy and sustainable living practices.

Season 2 of the series is set to arrive at some point later this year. All episodes of this second season have been filmed in Australia, a country that Efron appears to have a strongly growing affinity for. The actor was seemingly so keen to make a move Down Under, that he offloaded his Los Angeles house for less than its market price.

Dirt.com first reported in May last year that Efron had managed to shift the property for about $5.8 million, which was slightly below its true value. He had nonetheless made a profit of around $1.8 million from his original purchasing price.

Following the sale, the report also confirmed that Efron had spent about $2 million purchasing an extensive tract of land in Australia.

Is Zac Efron Planning To Move Permanently To Australia?

There were two major developments that convinced people that Zac Efron had his sights on a permanent move to Australia. Apart from the substantial investment in land in the country, he also started dating Australian model Vanessa Valladares in 2020.

By all accounts, it looked as though the Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile star was setting his sights on putting down roots away from the country of his birth. This school of thought was eventually thrown in doubt when Efron and the wealthy model went their separate ways after just 10 months of dating, in 2021.

Nonetheless, the $2 million he invested in his massive piece of land is likely a more accurate pointer as to how serious Efron is about making Australia his new home. Apart from Down to Earth, he also has multiple other projects that he has been working on in the nation, including the survival thriller movie, Gold, which was released in January this year.

While there is no indication that Efron is walking away from Hollywood in professional terms, he wouldn't be the first celebrity to keep working in the industry, but live elsewhere.

Zac Efron might just be moving away from Hollywood, but it wouldn't necessarily be to escape the star attraction in the area. The town where he bought his new piece of land in Australia is called Byron Bay, which is described as popular, scenic and surf-centric.

Byron Bay is not only known as a popular site for famous tourists to visit when in the country, a few American productions have actually set up base there. Despite actually being set in California, the 2021 Hulu miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers was filmed in Byron Bay.

Among the stars on the show were Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Regina Hall. Sasha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher are among the number of illustrious stars who have been known to visit the town. It is not something that the locals appear to appreciate much. A report from the town has residents saying of the celebrities: 'We don't want 'em.'
