EleanorWyatt I've been driving my 08' V70 for past 2 years with no issues (got it @160k miles and now at 176k). The internal temperature sensor (the one in center panel) fan has always been making intermittent noise, more like a humming sound every few seconds. I never paid much attention to it. Recenlty, about 1-2 weeks ago, this noise became louder and almost thumping. This continued for last 1-2 weeks and then, the center console’s sound system, started to reboot itself and rebotted itself several times during a trip. The next morning, the sound system didn’t turn on at all when the car was started AND, the humming sound was gone - the temperature sensor fan seemed to no longer run. Then, at some point, the audio system came back on, along with temperature sensor fan. The next day, when I started the car, the dashboard was full of warning messages: parking brake, SRS, brake failure, low tire pressue indeicator was on. I drove off and the car was running 100% normal from mechanical perspective. As I was riding, the dashboard seemed to have a life of its own, every now and then it would go black, RPM/Speed indicators would drop to zero, come back with various warning messages which then would go away to display as normal. Throughout this, audio system never came back. Also, when I shut down the car, the dash would stay on. Then after few restarts, it would shut off. Reading posts w/similar problems, I haven't found one where isseu was resolved. I don't have the VIDA so I guess that's something I should be getting? Also, should I first look into the battery health? Thanks so much in advance and please help with any pointers! #1 · Jun 2, 2021 I've been driving my 08' V70 for past 2 years with no issues (got it @160k miles and now at 176k). Similarly, there could be an intermittent short circuit that causes low-voltage dips. Or, you could have a failing alternator. You don't necessarily need VIDA. Some of the newer ODB-II hand-helds are much more easy-to-use (Autel, iCarSoft i906). For instance, you can continuously watch a graph of the system DC-voltage while driving. If there is anything erratic, it will show up on the graph. These tools will save you thousands over the years....it's the most important tool a used Volvo owner needs to have. The same tool will tell you if you have CANBus communication problems (rodent-chewed wires is main culprit). Insert Quotes Post Reply
