Just wondering what you guys think about the 8.1 vs the 6.0. It seems like most people on here do the 4.8/5.3 to 6.0 swap (myself included) but i dont see too many people with 8.1's. The reason why im asking this is because my buddy is swapping an 8.1 and an allison trans into his 87 silvy and that made me think why isnt everyone else doing stuff like this? ik the 8.1's are HUGE jw what you guys think about the comparison if any of the two. But don't count on using the factory heads they are junk for peformance! And open your wallet WIDE. Besides that, the 6.0 shines everywhere else. I have an old lifted '81 Chevy and as much as i'd like to do an LS swap, i think a mild high-torque big block would be much more fun. For the effort, you're better off dropping a LLY/LBZ in there. Reply 0 0 Suburbazine View Public Profile Visit Suburbazine's homepage! The 6.0 makes more hp as well. Plus with the mid to top end, it will walk right around the BBC while sipping on fuel, running low on gas. Reply 0 0

For performance use, 6.0 mods are cheaper and more plentiful. One torques along, other requires revs to use its power. Stock they were 340hp@4200rpm/455 lb/ft@3200rpm the LQ9 6.0 was 345hp@5200rpm/380lb/ft@4000rpm. LQ4 6.0 was 300hp@4400rpm-325hp@5000rpm/360-370lb/ft@4000rpm for torque depending on application. Dart now makes heads for the 8.1. You can get pistons, valvetrain, cams, intakes from the aftermarket. The marine 8.1 came in 2 official flavours, 375hp and 425 hp. In 2003 GM was testing a crate engine in boat racing that used the truck longblock with ported stock heads, different cam and valvetrain that made 525+hp/560+ lb/ft torque which is nothing to sneeze at. peace Hog Reply 0 0 hog View Public Profile Find More Posts by hog View iTrader Profile Reply Subscribe Related Topics Thread Thread Starter Forum Replies Last Post What kind of performance platform is a Yukon Denali?
