My last pickup truck had the 5.7 liter, could not keep up traffic with a loaded trailer.. Have a tubro diesel 6.5 now. love the way you can cruse down the highway with a load . looking for another chevy now. how does the 6.0 gasser pull trailers ? I know the 8.1 could pull anything , at any speed, I want. So would the 6.0 pull the twenty foot loaded cattle trailer at highway speeds ? without working the crap out of it? Thanks |

SE SD | go with the 8.1 the 6.0 will be shifting all the time and lack the power you need. The 8.1 will have the Allison tranny which is alot nicer for pulling. |
Northeast Indiana (Auburn) | The Allison and the 8.1 make the best gas combo. |
KS | What greasemonkey said is exactly right. 6.0 is a disappointment. |
Ohio | The 6.0 shouldn't have a problem keeping up with your 6.5 and may out pull it. The 8.1 and the allison is a better combo if you tow a lot though. The 6.0 is a much better engine then the 350 was. |

Chillicothe, Missouri | We have a friend that bounght a 6.0 in a 3/4 ton, said that it is dependable, but lacks in fuel miliage.... always gets 12 something, never has gotten 13 MPG, even driving around empty! |
Eastern North Carolina | 8.1/Allison went away in early 2007. The new 6.0, 4.10 or 3.73 gears with the six speed hydamatic is a good combo, stump pulling first gear. |

Hope you don't plan on pulling that stock trailer more than 175 miles loaded without re-fueling! 8.1 Power is awesome but they needed a much larger fuel tank to keep them on the road! LOL |

Central Wisconsin | I have several 6.0 s on the farm now they have been a bullet proof engine. milage from 9 pulling a trailer to 14.5 empty on the hiway. Had a 6.5 diesel in the passed . The 6.0 will out pull a 6.5. 6.0 will blow the doors off a 5.7. newer 6.0 are stronger then older ones. |

perryton, tx | I pull a 24 ft trailer loaded with 800 lb steers at 60 mph with a 6.0. Granted, the going uphill is a little tough but i'm satisfied with the power overall. |

Southeast Florida | I had 2) Chevy 3/4 ton HD's; one with 6.0L and the other with 8.1L. They were both loaded down with farm paraphernalia continuously. The 6.0L wouldn't get out of its own tracks and burned more gas the 8.1L. The 8.1L did 10-12 MPG including a lot of farm driving. The 6.0L 7-9 MPG and was gutless.Edited by Fla Veggie Farmer 2/18/2012 18:54 |

Wheatley, Arkansas | We have a 2500HD 6.0 and when pulling a 25'GN with a TLB on it you won't do much over 50 on flat ground without it downshifting and turning high rpms. Mileage is pitiful towing the TLB also. Empty crusing on the Istate it gets about 14. |

SW Illinois | I have an '08 3/4 ton with the 6.0 and really like it. It's got good power and the Hydramatic is a nice transmission. We also have an '04 3/4 ton with the 8.1 and Allison. The power is as good as my old 7.3 Powerstroke was and the transmission is awesome. Also have a 1 ton with the 6.5, 5-speed, and 4.10s. I hate to say it, but the 6.5 was a sorry excuse for a diesel and my 6.0 will pull circles around it. |

Saronville NE | Find a 8.1 and Allison, very hard to beat, the power is definetely there, will run circles around a 6.0. My 8.1 would keep up fairly well with my 08 Cummins I used to have when pulling cattle. But it wont begin to keep up with my 2011 F350 with 6.7 diesel. Only bad thing is the 8.1s are geting real hard to find. My 8.1 will avg 10 the way I drive and with a FB full of tools and air compressor, before I put the FB on we could get up to 13 long distance hwy. |

Fairbury, NE (Southeast) | GM dropped the ball big time when they stopped making that combo. I bought a diesel primarily because of the allison. |

Michigan's Thumb | 8.1 will get about the same pulling or empty, the 8.1 if your hooked up and pulling will get about the same milage as the Duramax's. My 8.1 is a 02, duramax is a 03 ( the good motor), and two 05 Duramax's which are kinda pigs compared to the 03. The 8.1 is thirsty, its a 2wd and at 340 miles its looking for gas and thats with a 34 gal tank I think! |

KS | What Fla Veggie said is about what I have heard too. Neighbors have both 6.0 and 8.1 and have hauled cattle 300+miles one way with both trucks and both got very similar mileage, less than 1mpg difference, with nearly the same load. They hate the 6.0 especially in the hills as you get towards missouri, it is either the transmission shifting all the time, or slowing down to 45 on each hill from 65. |
