Available in the USA from a custom ammunition maker at around $320/C. 0 Reply #5 · Jul 13, 2017 (Edited) Elfmdl, according to Cartridges of the World, the original loading for the 1889 rifle was a paper patched 213 grain bullet at 1970 fps. Seemingly used the same cartridge case, but no loading data accompanies. The text mentions "...29 grains of a semi-smokeless powder..." but the powder remains unidentified. From the text of CotW, the bore diameter was the same, so probably a 200 grain 30 caliber bullet would suit. if you have a Powley Computer, you might be able to finagle a load. I'm a pretty good guesser, but I don't guess for other people. The "Swiss Rifle dot com message board" has some very basic reloading data. Read it yourself and decide. http://theswissriflesdotcommessageboard.yuku.com/schmidt-rubin-1889-t9143.html And good luck, I collect and load 'duplicate' ammo for WWI era rifles. Million laughs and a few more headaches. PPU makes Swiss rifle ammo for the M1911 and later rifles. They also make for sale unprimed, Boxer type brass for sale. Fairly inexpensive. #10 · Feb 25, 2019

My suggestion is to get some PPY brass from Graf and Sons and cast bullets and size them .001" over measured bore diameter. The first load I would try would be 20 gr of 2400. #7 · Jul 19, 2017 [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5JdJkRb0yA[/ame] #8 · Feb 25, 2019 I’ve had some decent success using standard 7.5 brass. And Oregon trails laser cast bullets 170 grain .308 using imr 4895 and load to 30-40 krag specs #9 · Feb 25, 2019 My pal Dave here in yUK shoots his 1889 with a 215gr .311 bullet meant for the .303 British over 40gr of Vihtavuori N550. Last week he put forty shots into about five inches at 100m and was happy with that. The sights are less than helpful when you are seventy years old. #12 · Mar 5, 2019 170 grain cast bullets and 26 grains of imr 4895. I tried it. It works safely and fairly accurate. It’s a 30-40 Krag load. Cans and bottles don’t know the difference. Insert Quotes Post Reply
