#1 · Oct 31, 2014 I posted in another thread but it turns out the ABS codes point out that I may actually have a problem. After clearing the codes and rescanning, I get the following ABS codes: C0281 - C0281 - Brake Switch Circuit C0550 - C0550 - ECU Malfunction - internal write / checksum malfunction From the research I've done, it seems that the EBCM needs to be replaced. This was a pretty spot on description I found on Justanswer.com I'd a DIY fix and see that people have done it. Anyone have any experience with replacing an EBCM that can point me in the right direction as to where I can find the part, steps to do the job, etc? Outside of that, anyone have any troubleshooting tips or steps? Thanks! Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Nov 16, 2014 UPDATE: I did my research, looked up the codes and troubleshooting procedures in the service manual, and determined that the EBCM was faulty. I purchased a replacement pulled from another '07 CTS 3.6L and did the replacement job today. I got stuck on one of the T25 screws (looking at the EBCM from the front of the vehicle, it would be the bottom left screw). So, to finish removing the current EBCM I jacked up the car, put it on jack stands, pulled off the passenger wheel, pulled off the inner wheel well protector, and then scratched and bruised up my hands squeezing them in there to loosen up the last screw. Once I got it off, I soaked the screws in WD40 and cleaned them up, installed the replacement EBCM, reassembled the car and everything works! Now, the car runs fine although I do need to make an appointment to have the EBCM reprogrammed for my car as I do have the TC warning light on with an error code (I forget it off the top of my head) that indicates the EBCM needs to be re-calibrated. I will post more updates as I continue down this path! #3 · Nov 18, 2014 To add more info, the code I now get is C0278: Brake Pedal Position Sensor Not Calibrated Unfortunately, I don't have a Tech II to reprogram and it looks like they are pretty expensive. Now time to shop around and see what repair shop or dealership can reprogram the EBCM for me! #4 · Dec 2, 2014 UPDATE: All Fixed! So, when I get some more down time I'll add instrcutions (I don't have many pictures as I did the job alone and my hands were too dirty to use my cell phone). Anyway, after swapping out the old EBCM and installing the new one, I got a new error code relating to recalibration. I did some research and found I could still make out ahead on the job if I bought a used Tech II tool for $350-500 on Ebay. Instead, I opted to go to different shops. 2 Local shops gave me an answer I wasn't pleased with which was something along the lines of.... "Since you did the job yourself, we'll have to inspect everything and make sure it was done right, and most likely have to redo some stuff...' This answer didn't please me so I didn't go to those shops. All that popped in my head was that they were going to try to 'sell' me on something needing to be redone, and I'd rather just have them do what I asked. The dealerships I visited were a little better. They said they'd charge me 1h for recallibration and do a free 27 point inspection free. One shop quoted $130 and the other $120. I went for $120 and everything went great! They checked the car out, told me that the job was diagnosed and done correctly, and my car is back to normal and running great! All in all, it cost me $80 for tools, and service manual, along with $120 for the EBCM, and $127 for labor after tax. The total fix was $327, but I now have an ABS scan tool, a stubby rachet set, and a copy of the service manual! I came out way ahead of the initial estimate of 2-4h of labor + $1k for a new EBCM.
