    First time posting!

I am assembling lightweight gaming rig with some old and extra hardware, and I'm not sure which GPU is best.

My choices are a Sapphire AMD HD 7970 6gb and an EVGA 1050 ti 4gb. The 7970 might have more vram but I'm afraid it'd be noisey and possibly slower?

Rest of the build is as follows:

    AMD FX 8370

    Asus Sabertooth 990fx r3.0

    2x 8gb corsair ddr3 Lp @1866

    Nzxt s340 elite mid tower

    Seasonic 750w psu

    Noctua nh-c14

A couple SSD and Hdd's too but I figure they're not necessary to include. Included a pic of the 7970, it's huge but will fit in the s340.

    Thanks for any help!

7970 should still be a bit faster. Also 6GB variant is rare and a good collection piece

I'd personally get the 1050 Ti. You could likely overclock the shit out of it and still maintain power usage well under what the 7970'll do stock.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

    I would amd because...

    1. All amd rig

    2. More vram

    3. Just cause. The 7970 is a more interesting card. Yes the 1050 ti will have better driver support etc...but i still would go for 7970 to stick with an amd circa 2012 themed build...imho

The 7970 is going to draw more power, make more noise, but it will probably out perform if my research is any indicator. That said, you own both! Why not run some benchmarks!

I'd run the 7970 because it's a touch faster, and the 6gb of VRAM is cool on a 7970... didn't even know that existed until right just now.

    Main System: EVGA GTX 1080 SC, i7 8700, 16GB DDR4 Corsair LPX 3000mhz CL15, Asus Z370 Prime A, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R5, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 500gb Samsung 850 Evo Secondary System: EVGA GTX 780ti SC, i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz, MSI Z77 G43, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R4, 3TB WD Caviar Blue, 250gb Samsung 850 Evo

The Vapor-X cooler is actually quite good -- in terms of cooling and noise.

    I used to own a Vapor-X 7970 (3GB) and a Dual-X HD 7970 3GB ... I happen to still have my Vapor-X HD 7950 Boost hanging around.

I'd go with the 7970 because 6GiB are a huge advantage these days.

That's +50% More VRAM! Meaning more details and so on.

    That's bogus...

Because my Sapphire VEGA64 is way quieter than my RX480 (Power Color Red Devil) and especially the Gigabyte 7970. But the Gigabyte 7970 is quieter under low load but far louder than the HIS 7970 I had before.

You can't just claim that one is better than the other without taking a look at the Heatsink/Cooling soltion.

So the Sapphire 6GIB is probably quieter than those 1050ti:https://geizhals.eu/evga-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-gaming-low-profile-04g-p4-5251-kr-a1909019.html

The Sapphire Card looks like this:
