CBS 21 announces changes to news team lineup, including a new anchor

A new anchor will be joining the CBS 21 news team as one of several changes coming to the station’s news broadcasts.

The Harrisburg-based CBS affiliate announced that Candace Scalese will join the station as anchor for the CBS 21 News this Morning and CBS 21 News at Noon broadcasts. Scalese has previously worked at WACH FOX News is Columbia, South Carolina.

“I’m thrilled for this next step in my career, and I couldn’t be happier to serve the people of Central PA,” Scalese said in a press release. “I’m committed to being someone people can rely on, trust, and connect with every morning while they get their day started. I’m excited about becoming part of the community and making PA my home.”

Meanwhile, Joel D. Smith will shift to a new position alongside Jasmine Brooks as co-anchor of the CBS 21 evening and late news broadcasts. Smith had previously co-anchored the CBS 21 News this Morning broadcast prior to shifting to the position of Sports Director, though he also rejoined the News team for major stories such as pandemic and election coverage.

“Viewers often ask me which I prefer, News or Sports to cover?” Smith said in the press release. “I reply that I want to be where the most compelling stories are. Sometimes that’s Sports, but much more often it’s News. I’m looking forward to focusing on more News stories now, while staying ready for the next big Sports story as well.”

In addition to these shifts among news broadcasts anchors, reporter and Face the State anchor Ryan Eldredge will also be joining the CBS 21 Morning Team in the Alert Center.
